MPLS automatic bandwidth allocation via adaptive hysteresis
نویسندگان
چکیده
MPLS automatic bandwidth allocation (or provisioning) refers to the process of dynamically updating the bandwidth allocation of a label switched path on the basis of actual aggregate traffic demand on this path. Since bandwidth updates require signaling, it is common to limit the rate of updates to reduce signaling costs. In this article, we propose a model-free asynchronous adaptive hysteresis algorithm for MPLS automatic bandwidth allocation under bandwidth update rate constraints. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach by comparing it against existing schemes in (i) voice and (ii) data traffic scenarios. The proposed method can also be used in more general GMPLS networks. 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Proposal for Adaptive Bandwidth Allocation Using One-Way Feedback Control for MPLS Networks
In this research, we focused on fair bandwidth allocation on the Internet. The Internet provides communication services based on exchanged packets. The bandwidth available for each customer is often fluctuated. Fair bandwidth allocation is an important issue for ISPs to gain customer satisfaction. Static bandwidth allocation allows an exclusive bandwidth for specific traffic. Although it gives ...
متن کاملProportional Service Differentiation with MPLS
This paper describes two traffic engineering techniques for implementing proportional differentiated services based on Multiprotocol Label Switching constraint based routing. Both use a dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme to modify the bandwidth reserved by each traffic class according to the current network load. The first scheme uses an adaptive algorithm that qualitatively determines the req...
متن کاملEconomics-Driven Short-Term Traffic Management in MPLS-Based Self-adaptive Networks
Today’s networking environment exhibits significant traffic variability and squeezing profit margins. An adaptive and economicsaware traffic management approach, needed to cope with such environment, is proposed that acts on short timescales (from minutes to hours) and employs an economics-based figure of merit to rellocate bandwidth in an MPLS context. Both underload and overload deviations fr...
متن کاملAdaptive Bandwidth Allocation: Concepts and Efficiency for Admission-Controlled Capacity Tunnels
In this paper, we propose mechanisms for an adaptive bandwidth allocation (ABA) based on border-to-border (b2b) bandwidth budgets. These budgets can be considered as virtual capacity tunnels binding a fraction of the network capacity and connecting different network border routers. Unlike MPLS label switched paths or ATM virtual path connections associated with a certain bandwidth, these tunnel...
متن کاملG–BAM: A Generalized Bandwidth Allocation Model for IP/MPLS/DS-TE Networks
Bandwidth Allocation Models (BAMs) configure and handle resource allocation (bandwidth, LSPs, fibre) in networks in general (IP/MPLS/DS-TE, optical domain, other). BAMs currently available for IP/MPLS/DS-TE networks (MAM, RDM, G-RDM and AllocTC-Sharing) basically define resource restrictions (bandwidth) by “class” (traffic class, application ś class, user ś class or other grouping criteria) and...
