Patrolling the mind’s boundaries

چکیده

Patrolling the mind’s boundaries Abstract: Defenders of the extended mind thesis say that it is possible that some of our mental states may be constituted, in part, by states of the extrabodily environment. Often they also add that such extended mentation is a commonplace phenomenon. I argue that extended mentation, while not impossible, is either nonexistent or far from widespread. Genuine beliefs as they occur in normal biologically embodied systems are informationally integrated with each other, and sensitive to changes in the person’s overall system of beliefs. Environmental states, however, fail to satisfy this central feature of the functional role of belief, and hence fail to be genuine mental states.

Multi-Robot Frequency-Based Patrolling

Mobile robots can save human lives and financial costs by replacing humans in mundane, or dangerous tasks. Patrolling is one such task: It is often mundane, is inherently repetitive, and may involve risk to human patrollers. One important type of patrolling is frequency-based patrolling, which involves visiting all points within a target work area at a fixed frequency (as much as possible). Our...

TALOS: a tool for designing security applications with mobile patrolling robots

talos is a software tool for supporting the development of security applications with mobile patrolling robots. Exploiting talos’s functionalities, a user can easily compose a patrolling setting and apply recent algorithms presented in the multi–agent literature to find optimal patrolling strategies. Results can be evaluated and compared with intuitive graphical representations and an interacti...

Asynchronous Multi-Robot Patrolling against Intrusion in Arbitrary Topologies

Use of game theoretical models to derive randomized mobile robot patrolling strategies has recently received a growing attention. We focus on the problem of patrolling environments with arbitrary topologies using multiple robots. We address two important issues currently open in the literature. We determine the smallest number of robots needed to patrol a given environment and we compute the op...

Robot Patrolling for Stochastic and Adversarial Events

In this thesis, we present and analyze two robot patrolling problems. The first problem discusses stochastic patrolling strategies in adversarial environments where intruders use the information about a patrolling path to increase chances of successful attacks on the environment. We use Markov chains to design the random patrolling paths on graphs. We present four different intruder models, eac...
