CURRENT SCIENCE, VOL. 106, NO. 5, 10 MARCH 2014 655 *A report on Resonance – summer school in neuroscience held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi from 26 June to 6 July 2013, an allied effort by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, Harvard University, USA and IIT Delhi. continuity of the traditions in the Indian context. Several rock arts are probably hidden in remote places in dense woods, or in inaccessible mountain terrain. They are a rare source of knowledge about antiquity and tell us how the most primitive cultures kept aesthetic talent intact as a part of their living tradition. Rock art heritage of India is still in its infancy as far as identifying new sites, and preservation and maintenance are concerned. There is ample scope to include rock art heritage sites in the tourist map of India. If these sites are preserved and maintained properly, future generations would be able to enjoy the open and aesthetically created vibrant rock arts created by early man. Damage due to human interference (graffiti, defacing, quarrying, etc.) and natural deterioration (heat, humidity, temperature) are the challenges to preserve these non-renewable cultural resources. An exhibition of this kind is a rare treat and a golden opportunity for art lovers, students and general public to witness the world of rock art in one place. Surely, this would be a stimulating experience with prehistoric art and changing aspects of science and technology both in ancient times as well as in the contemporary cultures pertaining to this creative discipline of art.

Modelling drainage of the precorneal tear film after a blink.
We study the drainage of the precorneal tear film in humans. A fluid dynamic model for the drainage of the aqueous layer is developed that includes the effects of evaporation and gravity. The model may be reduced to a single nonlinear partial differential equation for the thickness of the aqueous layer. The equation is solved numerically and accurate times for film rupture are obtained for phys...
متن کاملTear film, contact lens, and patient-related factors associated with contact lens-related dry eye.
PURPOSE To examine tear film, contact lens, medical, and patient-related factors associated with self-reported contact lens-related dry eye. METHODS Four hundred fifteen contact lens wearers were recruited and enrolled in this phase of a larger cross-sectional study. A variety of tear film (e.g., interferometry, osmolality, phenol red thread, meibography, fluorescein, and lissamine green stai...
متن کاملHow to Manage Excessive Tearing in the Horse
The primary function of the lacrimal system is to produce and drain the tear film from the surface of the eye. The tear film is composed of three integrated layers: the aqueous, mucus, and lipid layers. The aqueous layer is produced by the orbital lacrimal gland and gland of the third eyelid and secreted onto the ocular surface through ductules that traverse the conjunctiva. The mucus layer is ...
متن کاملA model for wetting and evaporation of a post-blink precorneal tear film.
We examine a fluid dynamic model for the evolution of a precorneal tear film that includes evaporation of the aqueous layer and a wetting corneal surface. Our model extends previous work on the break-up time for a post-blink tear film to include a more realistic model for evaporation. The evaporation model includes the effects of conjoining pressure and predicts the existence of an equilibrium ...
متن کاملRestructuring-induced dewetting and re-entrant wetting of thin glassy films
– Thin films of glass-forming liquid crystalline molecules on float glass substrates showed restructuring-induced dewetting in the film thickness range of 40–100 Å upon increasing temperature after spin coating. This dewetting proceeded by the appearance of fluctuations at the free surface caused by restructuring taking place at the interface with the supporting substrate. Films thicker than 10...
متن کاملBubble-surface interactions with graphite in the presence of adsorbed carboxymethylcellulose.
The adsorption of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), and the subsequent effect on bubble-surface interactions, has been studied for a graphite surface. CMC adsorbs on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) in specific patterns: when adsorbed from a solution of low concentration it forms stretched, isolated and sparsely distributed chains, while upon adsorption from a solution of higher concentrat...
