Topological Index Criteria in DAE for Water Networks ZIB-Report 05-49 (December 2005) TOPOLOGICAL INDEX CRITERIA IN DAE FOR WATER NETWORKS

چکیده

The dynamics of pressurized water networks are naturally modeled by differential-algebraic equations (DAE). This article investigates fundamental structural properties of such a DAE model under weak regularity assumptions. The usual algebraic index-1 condition is shown to be necessary and sufficient with respect to several index concepts, as well as sufficient for solvability in a strong sense. Using the physical properties of nonlinear network elements and the inherent saddle point structure of network hydraulics, we then derive purely topological index criteria in terms of the network graph and the choice of control variables. Several examples illustrate the theoretical results and explore different non-index-1 situations. A brief discussion of the implications for operative planning based on discrete time DAE boundary value problems concludes the paper.

Topological index calculation of DAEs in circuit simulation

Electric circuits are present in a number of applications, e.g. in home computers, television, credit cards, electric power networks, etc. The development of integrated circuit requires numerical simulation. Modern modeling techniques like the Modi ed Nodal Analysis (MNA) lead to di erential algebraic equations (DAEs). Properties like the stability of solutions of such systems depend strongly o...

The Least Cost Design of Water Distribution Networks Using Water Quality Constraints

Water quality is a very important issue related to people health, but it is not usually considered in water distribution networks (WDNs) design. In this paper, new constraints such as free residual chlorine and the quality performance index are incorporated into the least cost design of water distribution networks. EPANET2 was applied for the hydraulic and quality analysis of water distributio...

VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT OF WATER DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS: GRAPH THEORY METHOD

The main functional purpose of a water distribution network is to transport water from a source to several domestic and industrial units while at the same time satisfying various requirements on hydraulic response. All the water distribution networks perform two basic operations: firstly the water network needs to deliver adequate amounts of water to meet specific requirements, and secondly the...

Assessment of Guinea Savanna River system to evaluate water quality and water monitoring networks

The analysis of changes in water quality in a monitoring network system is important because the sources of pollution vary in time and space. This study utilized analysis of the water quality index calculation, hierarchical cluster analysis, and mapping. This was achieved by assessing the water quality parameters of the samples collected from Galma River in Zaria, Northwestern Nigeria in wet an...

Application of Graph Theory: Relationship of Topological Indices with the Partition Coefficient (logP) of the Monocarboxylic Acids

It is well known that the chemical behavior of a compound is dependent upon the structure of itsmolecules. Quantitative structure – activity relationship (QSAR) studies and quantitative structure –property relationship (QSPR) studies are active areas of chemical research that focus on the nature ofthis dependency. Topological indices are the numerical value associated with chemical constitution...
