LED and Fresnel design and characterization Using Zemax optical design code

چکیده
LEDs are more commonly being used in optical systems due to the advances in LED technology in power, efficiency, cost and wavelength output; especially white light LEDs. Fresnel lenses are also cost effective and advancements in aspheric Fresnel lens manufacturing have made these lenses effective optical elements. Various optical design codes allow for accurate modeling of these incoherent light sources and here we use Zemax optical design software. Zemax is becoming the most commonly used optical design software for its capabilities, technical support, and cost. In this paper we discuss two techniques for modeling RGB and white light LEDs and characterize each technique using a Fresnel lens imaging system. LEDs and Fresnel lenses are both cost effective and are being widely used in various optical systems both in industry and defense applications.

Designing the optimal Fresnel lenses by using Zemax software
In this paper, the optimal Fresnel lenses are designed by Zemax software. The fundamental problem of the Fresnel lenses is the beam divergence, which wasresolved by decreeing the output stain diameter on the image plane. For this purpose, two types of radial and cylindrical Fresnel lenses are simulated with different groovesusing Global and Hammer optimization methods. The minimum output stain di...

Flat reflectors which have lower price compared with parabolic ones are used in Fresnel concentrator. Each Fresnel collector is comprised of a few flat reflectors which are placed parallel to each other near the ground. If effective width of flat reflectors is more than absorber tube diameter, reflected rays will be partly lost, hence low optical efficiency. By installing a secondary reflector ...

For an indoor non-directed line of sight optical wireless communication (NLOS-OWC) system we investigate the optimized Lambertian order (OLO) of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). We firstly derive an expression for the OLO from a conventional Lambertian LED model. Then, we analyze the indoor multi-cell NLOS-OWC channel characteristics including the optical power distribution and the multipath time ...

In this paper, we present a design and optical simulation of a daylighting system using a novel design of linear Fresnel lens, which is constructed based on the conservation of optical path length and edge ray theorem. The linear Fresnel lens can achieve a high uniformity by using a new idea of design in which each groove of the lens distributes sunlight uniformly over the receiver so that the ...
