Mineral Supplements for Beef Cattle
نویسنده
چکیده
elements for normal bodily maintenance, growth, and reproduction. Minerals that are required in relatively large amounts are called major or macro elements. Those needed in small amounts are classified as micro, minor, or trace minerals. These terms, however, have no relationship to the metabolic importance of a mineral in the diet. A trace mineral can be as essential to the health and performance of an animal as a major mineral. The major minerals include calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sodium, chlorine and sulfur. Among those needed in trace amounts are iron, zinc, manganese, copper, iodine, cobalt and selenium.

Intake and Performance of Yearling Steers Grazing Guineagrass (Panicum maximum cv. Tanzânia) Pasture Supplemented with Different Energy Sources
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of supplements containing different energy sources in relation to mineral supplementation of steers grazing guineagrass (Panicum maximum cv Tanzânia) pasture, during the dry season. The experimental design was a randomized block with three treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of a mineral supplementation and two other su...
متن کاملTrace Mineral Supplementation of Grazing Beef Cattle
The nutrient quality of forage, particularly perennial warm-season grasses, is often lacking in trace mineral content to supply the requirements of most all classes of grazing cattle. Since forage is the most significant contributor to the trace mineral nutrition of grazing beef cattle, it is important to consider these deficits and how they may impact the performance of the cattle consuming th...
متن کاملMineral Nutrients in Australian Molasses for Fattening Cattle
For feeding in large proportions to fatten beef cattle, Australian molasses have the following mineral nutrient characteristics: (a) all provide adequate to excess amounts of K, Ca, Mg, S, Cl, Co and Fe; (b) all are very deficient in P; (c) Na is deficient in some molasses from the Northern region; (d) Cu, Zn and Mn are all adequate for the lowest NRC level, but many molasses need supplementati...
متن کاملMineral Supplementation in the Grazing Cow Herd
Pasture forage is the most significant contributor to the trace mineral nutrition of grazing beef cattle. Mineral supplementation in beef cattle can be divided into two broad categories, macro-minerals and micro-minerals. These categories are based on the amount of mineral required in the cow’s diet. As a rule of thumb, micro-minerals are required in amounts less than 1 gram per day compared to...
متن کاملEssential Trace Minerals for Grazing Cattle in Florida
Introduction Pasture forage is the most significant contributor to the trace mineral nutrition of Florida's grazing beef cattle. Sandy, loworganic-matter soils have long been linked to the production of forages with low trace mineral content. In addition, the organic soils associated with the Okeechobee basin have been associated with the production of forages high in molybdenum, an antagonist ...
