The MAGIC Telescope project
نویسنده
چکیده
The 17 m diameter MAGIC telescope aims for gamma-ray astronomy above 15 GeV. The technical concept and status of the detector component developments for the first phase with a classical photomultiplier camera (threshold 30 GeV) will be given. The physics program will be reviewed in a separate contribution.

The Magic Telescope Project for Gamma Astronomy above 10 Gev
A project to construct a 17 m diameter imaging air Čerenkov telescope, called the MAGIC Telescope, is described. The aim of the project is to close the observation gap in the γ-ray sky extending from 10 GeV as the highest energy measurable by space-borne experiments to 300 GeV, the lowest energy measurable by the current generation of ground-based Čerenkov telescopes. The MAGIC Telescope will i...
متن کاملThe Future of the MAGIC Project: Phase II
The first MAGIC telescope is close to completion and soon will start to collect data. Parallel to the ongoing MAGIC construction we pursuit studies for the future 2nd phase of the MAGIC observatory project. We have been considering 3 choices for the extension of the project: a) To build a ∼30 m diameter telescope in the vicinity of MAGIC. b) To give MAGIC another camera based on very high quant...
متن کاملStatus of Magic and Expected Capabilities
An overview of the status of the 17 m diameter MAGIC telescope project will be given. During phase I, the telescope will reach a threshold of 30 GeV and a sensitivity of 6.0 10 −11 cm −2 s −1. First light is foreseen in mid 2001 and first observations in 2002. The expected capabilities of the telescope for high energy astrophysics and fundamental physics will be reviewed.
متن کاملMAGIC and the Search for Signatures of Supersymmetric Dark Matter
The 17m Imaging Air shower Cherenkov Telescope MAGIC (Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, La Palma, Canary Islands) has recently entered its commissioning phase. One of the main goals of the MAGIC telescope project is to provide an unprecedented sensitivity for the detection of gamma rays with energies as low as 30 GeV. A dedicated search for the gamma rays expected to be produced by WIMP annih...
متن کاملMAGIC multiwavelength observations: policy, and some recent results
MAGIC, 17 meters of diameter, is the world’s largest single dish Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope, and reaches in the analysis the lowest energy threshold (60 GeV) among the VHE gamma detectors. Completed in September 2004, MAGIC started full operation with its first cycle of data taking in February 2005. MAGIC observations in the galaxy cover, among others, supernova remnants, the Galac...
