Projectile dependence of single-excitation cross sections at intermediate velocities.

چکیده
We study 1s→2s(2p) excitation of hydrogen as a function of the nuclear charge of the projectile, ZP , for a fixed impact velocity, v51.3 a.u., for which electron excitation, capture, and ionization are competitive processes. For this purpose, we have performed large ab initio close-coupling calculations using a molecular basis in the framework of the impact-parameter method. Excitation probabilities do not saturate when ZP increases indefinitely, in agreement with recent work of Janev and with theoretical evidence on the behavior of transition probabilities at high impact energies.

Signatures of molecular single-particle states by level crossings in heavy ion collisions
In heavy ion collisions, the molecular single-particle motion may cause specific structures in the energy dependence of the cross sections which anse by the promotion of nucleons at level crossings according to the Landau-Zener excitation mechanism. In order to examine this effect in asymmetric heavy ion collisions, we have calculated level diagrams of the two-center shell model for the target ...
متن کاملDirect excitations of He+ and Li++ ions by collisions with protons or antiprotons
The impact parameter formalism of the single-center close-coupling, first-, and second-order Born approximations have been applied to investigate direct excitations of Helium He+(2s) and Lithium Li++(2s) ions by colliding with protons or antiprotons. The total 3s, 3p, and 3d scaled excitation cross sections are calculated in the scaled impact energy region (2 to 1000 keV). The present work aims...
متن کاملProjectile deformation effects on single-nucleon removal reactions
We discuss intermediate-energy single-nucleon removal reactions from deformed projectile nuclei. The removed nucleon is assumed to originate from a given Nilsson model single-particle state and the inclusive cross sections, to all rotational states of the residual nucleus, are calculated. We investigate the sensitivity of both the stripping cross sections and their momentum distributions to the...
متن کاملProjectile ∆ and target - Roper excitation in the p ( d , d ′ ) X reaction
In this paper we compare a model that contains the mechanisms of ∆ excitation in the projectile and Roper excitation in the target with experimental data from two (d, d ′) experiments on a proton target. The agreement of the theory with the experiment is fair for the data taken at T d = 2.3 GeV. The ∆ excitation in the projectile is predicted close to the observed energy with the correct width....
متن کاملA Precision Measurement of pp Elastic Scattering Cross Sections at Intermediate Energies
We have measured differential cross sections for pp elastic scattering with internal fiber targets in the recirculating beam of the proton synchrotron COSY. Measurements were made continuously during acceleration for projectile kinetic energies between 0.23 and 2.59 GeV in the angular range 30◦ ≤ θc.m. ≤ 90◦ . Details of the apparatus and the data analysis are given and the resulting excitation...
