An Analysis of Cooperative Repair Capabilities in a Team of Robots

چکیده
dbstmctTo date, very little work has investigated the benefits of repairable robots. Robots that can repair themselves and other robots in their team are intuitively a superior design. Intuition, however, is not an acceptable basis for spending millions of dollars in development. In this work, we quantify the gain in productivity of a team of repairable robots compared to a team without repair capabilities. We create a model using an extension of standard reliability theory. It allows the definition of a metric which is used to compare the two teams. The analysis yields insight into the design of repairable robot teams under a certain set of assumptions. The model also demonstrates scenarios where repair capabilities are not likely to be beneficial.

Cooperative Control of Mobile Robots in Creating a Runway Platform for Quadrotor Landing
Multi-agent systems are systems in which several agents accomplish a mission in a cooperative manner. In this paper, a novel idea for the construction of a movable runway platform based on multi-agent systems is presented. It is assumed that an aerial agent (quadrotor) decides to make an emergency landing due to reasons such as a decrease in energy level or technical failure, while there is no ...
متن کاملA New Intelligent Approach to Patient-cooperative Control of Rehabilitation Robots
This paper presents a new intelligent method to control rehabilitation robots by mainly considering reactions of patient instead of doing a repetitive preprogrammed movement. It generates a general reference trajectory based on different reactions of patient during therapy. Three main reactions has been identified and included in reference trajectory: small variations, force shocks in a single ...
متن کاملUsing Dynamic Capability Evaluation to Organize a Team of Cooperative, Autonomous Robots
In our research, we have developed an architecture and computational structure that allows for a generic team of robots to dynamically discern what their capabilities are and then apply those to evaluate if the team can achieve an externally mandated set of goals. We define the process of dynamic capability evaluation to determine if a team of robots can build a cooperative organization with th...
متن کاملThe Evolution of Cooperative Behaviours in Physically Heterogeneous Multi-robot Systems
Evolutionary Robotics (ER) is a methodology that uses evolutionary computation to develop controllers for autonomous robots. The existing works focus on single robot systems or physically homogenous multi‐robot teams, although physical heterogeneousness is more prevalent in the real world. It is therefore instructive to examine whether cooperative behaviours can ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Heterogeneity in Teams of 100+ Mobile Robots
In mid-2002, a new project was begun as part of DARPA/IPTO’s Software for Distributed Robotics (SDR) Program, aimed at the practical implementation of a team of 100+ heterogeneous mobile robots in an indoor surveillance and reconnaissance task. The overall project involves the collaboration of Science Applications International Corporation (the lead organization), the University of Tennessee, t...
