Notes on the Cainozoic History of Western Tasmania- " Malanna" Glaciation
نویسنده
چکیده
The Cainozoic history of the Malanna area included faulting, deposition of sediments by streams or in lakes and swamps, two epochs of planation, and stream erosion. There is no physiographic, depositional or structural evidence for gladation in this area, the type area of Lewis's Malanna Phase of the Pleistocene glaciation. This phase must be considered invalid on the eviaence available in the type area and the term "Malanna Phase" should be abandoned.

During the Last Glaciation in Tasmania a large ice cap developed on the western edge of the Central Plateau and overlapped on to the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair area. Several reticulate lobes flowed from this source, with the largest northern outlet, the Mersey Glacier, covering an area of c. 282 km2• The Lake Ayr Valley was occupied by a smail diffiuent lobe of the Mersey Glacier, and the la...

Over 1 OO-m elevation of Cainozoic sediments (mostly of Tertiary age) in the Trzebnica Hills was the effect of tectonic movement of rock masses within the Fore-S udetic Monocline. Differences in heights are considerably high and locally reach 70 m. Glaciotectonic deformations during consecutive glaciations additionally contributed to substantial complication of inner structure. The main stage o...

That a glacier once flowed down the King Valley is shown by glacial deposits in t,his valley and in the adjacent Nelson, Comstock and Linda Valleys. East of Mt. Lyell iL was at least 1,000 feet thick, but south of this point it decreased rapidly in thiekness due to widening of the valley and to loss of ice to the distributary glaciers in the Linda and Nelson Valleys. During a brief maximum phas...

Three species, Ochrolechia pallescens, Phaeophyscia confusa and Usnea longissima, are newly reported for lichenized mycota of Iran and seven species are new to the province. Additionally, a short history of lichenological exploration in the Hyrcanian forest i...
