Ontogeny of osmoregulation in the palaemonid

چکیده
Osmoregulation was studied in the zoeal stages I and VI, the first decapodid, the first juvenile, and in adults of the palaemonid shrimp Palaernonetes argentinus. The larvae hatch in freshwater creeks or in adjacent brackish coastal lagoons of the warm temperate southwestern coast of the Atlantic Ocean; larval development is possible in low salinities. To cope with these demanding environments, the capacity for osmoregulation is well developed at hatching, increasing only slightly throughout development. All the postembryonic developmental stages hyper-regulated at low salinity (1 to 10Ym), hyper-osmoconformed at l?%, and osn~oconformed at higher salinities (26%0; up to 32%0 in adults). The type of osmoregulation did not change dunng developnlent from larval hatching through the adult phase. The ecological implications and the evolutionary sigruficance of osmoregulation in early llfehistory stages of P. argentinus and other aquat~c rustaceans are discussed.

A transcriptomic scan for potential candidate genes involved in osmoregulation in an obligate freshwater palaemonid prawn (Macrobrachium australiense)
BACKGROUND Understanding the genomic basis of osmoregulation (candidate genes and/or molecular mechanisms controlling the phenotype) addresses one of the fundamental questions in evolutionary ecology. Species distributions and adaptive radiations are thought to be controlled by environmental salinity levels, and efficient osmoregulatory (ionic balance) ability is the main mechanism to overcome ...
متن کاملOntogeny of osmoregulation in the crayfish Astacus leptodactylus.
Osmoregulation was studied during the postembryonic development of Astacus leptodactylus Eschscholtz 1823 in juvenile stages 1-8 and in adults. Juveniles hatch and later stages develop in freshwater or in moderately saline waters. The time of acclimation from freshwater to a saline medium increased from early juveniles to adults. At all stages, it was longer than in comparable stages of marine ...
متن کاملOsmoregulation and immunolocalization of Na+/K+-ATPase during the ontogeny of the mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis (Decapoda, Grapsoidea)
The ontogeny of osmoregulation was studied in laboratory-reared early developmental stages of the Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis from the Elbe estuary (North Sea, Germany). At salinities ranging from 0.16 to 44.3‰, survival rate was quantified, hemolymph osmolality was measured, and osmoregulatory capacity was calculated as the difference between osmolality of the hemolymph and that of ...

Experimental trials of acclimatization of juvenile Persian sturgeon, Acipenser persicus to different salinites of 0,5,10, 15ppt were studied. The juvenile Persian sturgeons in three weight classes (1.5, 3, 5g) have been transfered from freshwater to different concentrations of saline water. Na+, k+, Cl- concentrations of blood serum and the changes in the number and size of chloride cells wer...

The ontogeny of the digestive tract (DT) and of Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase localization was investigated during the early postembryonic development (from yolk sac larva to juvenile) of the euryhaline teleost Dicentrarchus labrax reared at two salinities: seawater and diluted seawater. Histology, electron microscopy and immunocytochemistry were used to determine the presence and differentiation of ion tr...
