چکیده

There is evidence that the force required to control an aircraft in flight might exceed the capability of some pilots, particularly during manoeuvres of long duration (McDaniel, 1994). Furthermore, investigations of both static and dynamic force production have reported higher variability in force production at both high force levels and at very low force levels (Newell and Carlton, 1988; Sherwood and Schmidt, 1980). Inaccurate movement at very low force levels may have particular relevance to aircraft with ‘fly-by-wire’ control systems, which require little force to operate. Thus, the ability of pilots to accurately control an aircraft at both high and low force levels might be compromised. The aim of this study was to measure the landing performance of pilots during instrument landings (ILS) in a flight simulator, over a range of force levels.

Fuzzy Model of Human’s Performance for Guarding a Territory in an Air Combat

This paper proposes a new method for a three dimensional fuzzy model of pilot's performance for guarding a territory with a short-distance between two aircraft in an air combat task with a gun. A third-order nonlinear point mass vehicle model is considered for an aircraft's flight dynamics. The desired value of the velocity, the flight path and the heading angles are obtained from some derived ...

A Statistical Analysis of the Aircraft Landing Process

Managing operations of the aircraft approach process and analyzing runway landing capacity, utilization and related risks require detailed insight into the stochastic characteristics of the process. These characteristics can be represented by probability distributions. The focus of this study is analyzing landings on a runway operating independent of other runways making it as a single runway. ...

Stress Training Improves Performance During a Stressful Flight

OBJECTIVE This study investigated whether stress training introduced during the acquisition of simulator-based flight skills enhances pilot performance during subsequent stressful flight operations in an actual aircraft. BACKGROUND Despite knowledge that preconditions to aircraft accidents can be strongly influenced by pilot stress, little is known about the effectiveness of stress training a...

Flight Tests of a 3-D Perspective-View Glass-Cockpit Display for General Aviation Using GPS

A display that takes advantage of the threedimensional positioning data available from differential GPS has been flight tested on a general aviation aircraft. This glass-cockpit instrument provides a natural, “out the window” view of the world, making the horizon, runway, and desired flight path visible to the pilot in instrument flight conditions. The flight path is depicted as a series of sym...

Visual Cues in Manual Landing of Airplanes

This paper discusses recent findings in ongoing research on the visual cues that pilots use when landing airplanes. An overview is given of the many visual cues that have been proposed in literature. Some are widely accepted as ‘important cue’ in a certain phase or for a certain decision, others are controversial. Specifically the cues used to time the flare maneuver are discussed in this contr...
