چکیده
We report on gamma-ray observations of the supernova remnant (SNR) RX J0852.0−4622 with the Large Area Telescope (LAT) aboard the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. In the Fermi LAT data, we find a spatially extended source at the location of the SNR. The extension is consistent with the SNR size seen in other wavelengths such as X-rays and TeV gamma rays, leading to the identification of the gamma-ray source with the SNR. The spectrum is well described as a power law with a photon index of Γ = 1.85±0.06 (stat)+0.18 −0.19 (sys), which smoothly connects to the H.E.S.S. spectrum in the TeV energy band. We discuss the gamma-ray emission mechanism based on multiwavelength data. The broadband data can be fit well by a model in which the gamma rays are of hadronic origin. We also consider a scenario with inverse Compton scattering of electrons as the emission mechanism of the gamma rays. Although the leptonic model predicts a harder spectrum in the Fermi LAT energy range, the model can fit the data considering the statistical and systematic errors. Cangaroo-iii Observations of the Supernova Remnant Rx J0852.0−4622
Sub-TeV gamma-ray emission from the North-West rim of the supernova remnant RX J0852.0−4622 was detected with the CANGAROO-II telescope and recently confirmed by the H.E.S.S. group. In addition, the H.E.S.S. data revealed a very wide (up to two degrees in diameter), shell-like profile of the gamma-ray emission. We have carried out CANGAROO-III observations in January and February 2005 with thre...
متن کاملThe X–ray Sources at the Center of the Supernova Remnant RX J0852.0−4622
Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We present a BeppoSAX observation of the X–ray source AX J0851.9−4617.4 that has been proposed as the neutron star associated to the shell like-supernova remnant RX J0852.0−4622. The image at E>5 keV shows the presence of a new source, SAX J0852.0−4615 , not resolved from AX J0851.9−4617.4 in previous observations. The improved positional accuracy obtained for...
متن کاملXMM - Newton observations of the supernova remnant RX J 0852 . 0 - 4622 / GRO J 0852 - 4642
RX J0852.0-4622 is a supernova remnant discovered in the ROSAT all-sky survey. Spatially coincident 1.157 MeV γ-ray line emission was detected with the COMPTEL instrument on-board of the CGRO. The analysis combining the X-ray and γ-ray data suggests that RX J0852.0-4622 is a close-by and young supernova remnant. Follow-up observations with ASCA show that the two brightest sections of the limb h...
متن کاملKinematics of the Pencil Nebula ( RCW 37 ) and its association with the young Vela supernova remnant RX
The association between the Pencil nebula (RCW 37, NGC 2736), the Vela X-ray fragment D/D' and the recently discovered new X-ray supernova remnant (RX J0852.0-4622) in Vela is investigated. Recently published Chandra images of D/D' are compared with optical images of RCW 37 and confirm the close association of the two objects. New optical line profiles of RCW 37 from an extended slit position p...
متن کاملExploring the Central Compact Object in the RX J0852.0-4622 Supernova Remnant with XMM-Newton
The properties of the presumably young galactic supernova remnant (SNR) RX J0852.0-4622, discovered by ROSAT, are still uncertain. The data concerning the distance to the SNR, its age, and the presence of a compact remnant remain controversial. We report the results of several XMM-Newton observations of CXOU J085201.4-461753, the central compact source in RX J0852.0-4622. The currently prefered...
