چکیده

The high-pressure behaviour of NaSi is studied using Raman spectroscopy and angle-dispersive synchrotron X-ray diffraction to observe the onset of structural phase transformations and potential oligomerisation into anionic Si nanoclusters with extended dimensionality. Our studies reveal a first structural transformation occurring at 8-10 GPa, followed by irreversible amorphisation above 15 GPa, suggesting the formation of Si-Si bonds with oxidation of the Si species and reduction of Na to metallic sodium. We have combined our experimental studies with DFT calculations to assist in the analysis of the structural behaviour of NaSi at high pressure.

Study of Dehydrogenation of Pressure-induced NaBH4 Structures Using Calculated NQCC Parameters

Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectroscopy is an accurate method for determination of electric charge distribution around quadrupolar nuclei. Using ab initio computational methods, it is possible to calculate the Nuclear Quadrupole Coupling Constants (NQCCs) with high accuracy and obtain the useful structural information by using these parameters. Sodium Borohydride, NaBH4, is a metal hydr...

Pressure-induced transformations in diborane: a Raman spectroscopic study.

As a classical electron-deficient molecule with unique hydrogen bridge bonding, diborane has created considerable interest in the structural chemistry. We report here the first evidence of pressure-induced structural transformations of diborane probed by in situ Raman spectroscopy. At pressures around 4 GPa, diborane undergoes a liquid-solid phase transformation to a new high-pressure phase I w...

Pressure-induced structural transformations in Si nanocrystals: Surface and shape effects.

The kinetics of solid-solid phase transitions are explored using pressure-induced structural transformations in Si nanocrystals. In agreement with the predictions of homogeneous deformation theories, large elevations in phase transition pressure are observed in nanocrystals as compared to bulk Si, and high pressure x-ray diffraction peak widths indicate an overall change in nanocrystal shape up...

From Wade-Mingos to Zintl-Klemm at 100 GPa: binary compounds of boron and lithium.

Structural diversity and a variety of bonding schemes emerge as characteristics of the Li-B phase diagram in this ground-state theoretical investigation. We studied stoichiometries ranging from LiB(15) to Li(5)B, over a pressure range from 1 atm to 300 GPa. At P = 1 atm, stability is found for the experimentally known LiB(0.8-1.0), LiB(3), and Li(3)B(14) phases. As the pressure rises, the latte...
