چکیده

Added delay strategy can be used to solve the broadcast storm problem of ordinary broadcast mechanism (OBM) and maximize network life-time. Available added delay strategies take into account the distance and/or the residual energy. In this paper, we propose a new added delay strategy— Maximum Life-time Localized Broadcast (MLB). As the node’s number of neighbors that have not received the broadcast message (we call it coverage degree) can better describe the coverage rate, MLB takes the coverage degree rather than the distance into account. MLB also takes the residual energy into account as other strategies do. MLB only need one-hop neighbor information to find the coverage degree, so MLB is a distributed protocol and the overhead is small. Simulation results show that, as compared with OBM, MLB can save at least 50% rebroadcast, its maximum end-to-end delay is lower, its reachability is the same, and its network life-time is two times longer.

Energy Efficient Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks by Using Honey Bee Mating Optimization

Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) are composed of mobile stations communicating through wireless links, without any fixed backbone support. In these networks, limited power energy supply, and frequent topology changes caused by node mobility, makes their routing a challenging problem. TORA is one of the routing protocols that successfully copes with the nodes’ mobility side effects, but it do...

A Position-Based Connectionless Routing Algorithm for MANET and WiMAX under High Mobility and Various Node Densities

Many routing algorithms were proposed for mobile ad hoc network (MANET). They can be classified into two categories: connection-oriented and connectionless. Their performance is usually limited under high mobility or various node densities. A connectionless algorithm even encounter a local maximum problem (also called void problem) under low node density. The problem causes a data packet cannot...

Performance Comparison Study of Multicast Routing Protocols for Mobile Ad hoc Networks under Default Flooding and Density and Mobility Aware Energy-Efficient (DMEF) Broadcast Strategies

Recently, we had proposed a novel network density and mobility aware energy-efficient broadcast route discovery strategy (called DMEF) to discover stable routes in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). DMEF works by letting each node to dynamically choose its own broadcast transmission range for the route discovery messages depending on the perceived number of neighbour nodes in its default maximum ...
