چکیده

Aims. We present a method that allows us to estimate the distance from the continuum source located in the center of AGN to the highly ionized gas called warm absorber. Methods. We compute a set of constant total pressure photoionization models compatible with the warm absorber conditions, where a metal-rich gas is irradiated by a continuum in the form of a double power-law. The first power-law is hard up to 100 keV and represents a radiation from an X-ray source, while the second power-law extends downwards from several eVs and illustrates a radiation from an accretion disk. Results. When the ionized continuum is dominated by the soft component, the warm absorber is heated by free-free absorption, instead of Comptonization, and the transmitted spectra show different absorption line characteristics for different values of the hydrogen number density at the cloud illuminated surface. Conclusions. This fact results in the possibility of deriving the number density at the cloud illuminated side from observations and hence the distance to the warm absorber.

New Chandra/ HST-STIS results on Seyfert I AGN: Photoionized Outflows

We present soft X-ray results from observations with Chandra (HETGS) of the Seyfert I AGN NGC 4593 and Mrk 509. We discuss the photoionized outflows associated with Seyfert I AGN in terms of their absorption spectral signatures and discuss their kinematics, column density and ionization state. We discuss the link between UV and X-ray absorbers in Mrk 509 (which was simultaneously observed with ...

X - ray photoionized plasma diagnostics with Helium - like ions . Application to Warm Absorber - Emitter in Active

We present He-like line ratios (resonance, intercombination and forbidden lines) for totally and partially photoionized media. For solar plasmas, these line ratios are already widely used for density and temperature diagnostics of coronal (collisional) plasmas. In the case of totally and partially photoionized plasmas, He-like line ratios allow for the determination of the ionization processes ...

A SOFT X-RAY STUDY OF TYPE I AGN OBSERVED WITH Chandra HETGS

We present the results of a uniform analysis of the soft X-ray spectra of fifteen type I AGN observed with the high resolution X-ray gratings on board Chandra. We found that ten of the fifteen AGN exhibit signatures of an intrinsic ionized absorber. The absorbers are photoionized and outflowing, with velocities in the range ∼ 10−10 km s. The column density of the warm absorbing gas is ∼ 10cm. N...

Warm Absorbers in Agn: a Multi-temperature Wind

Although soft X-ray absorption features in AGN were discovered almost ten years ago, the nature and location of the gas creating them has remained controversial. Guided by the results of recent highresolution X-ray spectroscopy, we argue that these features are created in a multi-temperature wind whose source of matter is photoionized evaporation from the inner edge of the obscuring torus often...

Comments on the Intrinsic X-ray/uv Absorbers in Agn

This talk discusses the unified X-ray/UV absorption models in AGN. I will first review the models and discuss how they offer an unique opportunity to probe the near nuclear environment of AGNs. Recently, however, the validity of these models has been questioned by a number of authors. I will discuss these papers and argue that the data/ models presented in them do NOT contradict the unified X-r...
