Fingerprinting Smart Devices Through Embedded Acoustic Components
نویسندگان
چکیده
The widespread use of smart devices gives rise to both security and privacy concerns. Fingerprinting smart devices can assist in authenticating physical devices, but it can also jeopardize privacy by allowing remote identification without user awareness. We propose a novel fingerprinting approach that uses the microphones and speakers of smart phones to uniquely identify an individual device. During fabrication, subtle imperfections arise in device microphones and speakers which induce anomalies in produced and received sounds. We exploit this observation to fingerprint smart devices through playback and recording of audio samples. We use audiometric tools to analyze and explore different acoustic features and analyze their ability to successfully fingerprint smart devices. Our experiments show that it is even possible to fingerprint devices that have the same vendor and model; we were able to accurately distinguish over 93% of all recorded audio clips from 15 different units of the same model. Our study identifies the prominent acoustic features capable of fingerprinting devices with high success rate and examines the effect of background noise and other variables on fingerprinting accuracy.

A Framework for Music-Speech Segregation using Music Fingerprinting and Acoustic Echo Cancellation Principle
Background interference creates voice intelligibility issue for listener. This research work considers background music as interference for communication through smart phone in areas with loud background music. This paper proposes a novel framework for background music segregation from human speech using music fingerprinting and acoustic echo cancellation. Initially, background music is searche...

Among traditional users of Web resources industry has also a growing set of smart industrial devices with embedded intelligence. As well as humans they need online services, e.g. for condition monitoring, remote diagnostics, maintenance, etc. In this paper we present one possible implementation framework for such Web services. Assumed that such services should be Semantic Web enabled and form a...

متن کاملArchitectural Considerations in Smart Object Networking
The term "Internet of Things" (IoT) denotes a trend where a large number of embedded devices employ communication services offered by Internet protocols. Many of these devices, often called "smart objects", are not directly operated by humans but exist as components in buildings or vehicles, or are spread out in the environment. Following the theme "Everything that can be connected will be conn...
متن کاملOn board compiling in the very small
Smart cards and embedded devices are well known for being low end platforms with limited resources and computing power. Thus they are not provided with embedded compilers which are said to be expensive and prefer using byte code interpreters rather than just in time or on the fly compilers. The following paper will challenge this idea and motivate the expected benefits of an embedded on the fly...
