Sleep cine magnetic resonance imaging—A dynamic evaluation of the airway

چکیده

It has become more apparent in recent years that increasing numbers of children continue to have obstructive sleep apnea despite previous removal of the tonsils and adenoids. This occurs not only in children in “at-risk” populations, such as those with Down syndrome and obesity, but also in otherwise “normal” children. Sleep cine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides a high-resolution examination of the airway during sleep without ionizing radiation exposure and allows for identification of site or sites of residual airway obstruction. This technique is particularly helpful since the diagnostic examination performed in awake adults for sleep apnea is not often possible in the pediatric population. The technique of sleep cine MRI and examples of its use are presented. Sample patient scenarios are used to illustrate how it can assist with treatment planning. Anesthesia use during the cine MRI is discussed. © 2012 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

The effects of anesthesia and opioids on the upper airway: A systematic review.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) is used to determine surgical therapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA); however, the effects of anesthesia on the upper airway are poorly understood. Our aim was to systematically review existing literature on the effects of anesthetic agents on the upper airway. DATA SOURCES PubMed, CINAHL, EBM reviews and Scopus (all indexed years)....

Effect of Bias in Contrast Agent Concentration Measurement on Estimated Pharmacokinetic Parameters in Brain Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging Studies

Introduction: Pharmacokinetic (PK) modeling of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) is widely applied in tumor diagnosis and treatment evaluation. Precision analysis of the estimated PK parameters is essential when they are used as a measure for therapy evaluation or treatment planning. In this study, the accuracy of PK parameters in brain DCE...

Evaluation of Model-Based Methods in Estimating Dynamic Functional Connectivity of Brain Regions

Today, neuroscientists are interested in discovering human brain functions through brain networks. In this regard, the evaluation of dynamic changes in functional connectivity of the brain regions by using functional magnetic resonance imaging data has attracted their attention. In this paper, we focus on two model-based approaches, called the exponential weighted moving average model and the d...

Analysis of Memory-Related Brain Activation Maps in Sleep-Depriveation using Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Background and purpose: Insomnia is a common sleep disorder with negative consequences such as decreased quality of life. In this study, the effect of sleep deprivation on memory in both young and older adults was investigated using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Materials and methods: In this retrospective study, fMRI data of 40 healthy subjects (17 young and 23 older people) w...
