A New Triterpene Acid from the Fern Notholaena grayi

چکیده
Previous studies on several specimens of N. grayi Davenp. have revealed, in the white frond exudate, flavonoid aglycones which form a con stant pattern [1], It was indicated later, in a tabu lated survey of 23 specimens of N. grayi, that a fur ther unknown flavonoid occurs in every species, in small or in trace amount [2], When bulk material, collected in Arizona, was processed for the isola tion of this flavonoid, a terpenoid constituent was also obtained in crystalline form. The structure elucidation of this latter product is reported here.

A dihydroflavonol with taxonomic significance from the fern Notholaena sulphurea.
A new flavonoid, 2,3-trans-5,2'-dihydroxy-7,8-dimethoxy-dihydroflavonol-3-O-acetate, was isolated from the farinose coating on the lower leave surface of the fern, Notholaena sulphurea. The 2,3-cis diastereoisomer was isolated as a co-constituent. This novel acylated flavonoid is characteristic for the chemotype of N. sulphurea exhibiting yellow frond exudate. Its orrurrence underlines the affi...

The farinose coating on the lower frond surface of the fern Notholaena rigida Dav. was shown pre viously to contain the flavones scutellarein-6,7,4'trimethyl ether and scutellarein-6 ,7-dimethyl ether as well as minor amounts of apigenin, apigenin-4'methyl ether, and apigenin-7,4'-dimethyl ether [1], The exudate material also contains a considerable amount of terpenoids, one of which has been ...
متن کاملKaurane-Type Diterpenes from Fern Frond Exudates
The viscid exudate found on fronds o f the fern, Cheilanthes kaulfussii, consists of terpenoids in which flavonoid aglycones are dissolved. One of the terpenes is shown to be em-kaur-16-en-19-oic acid. The farinose frond exudate of Notholaena pallens contains this acid as the major constituent and its 3 /?-hydroxy derivative, together with flavonoid aglycones as minor components. In N. incana, ...

Notholaena fendleri, Polypodiaceae, Farinose Exudate, Novel Flavanone Notholaena fendleri is a rare representative of the genus, growing mainly in Colorado/USA. The white farinose exudate on the lower surface of its pinnules is composed partly of waxy material and partly of flavonoid aglycones. The flavonoid moiety consists mainly of methyl derivatives of the flavanones naringenin and eriodicty...

T he m ajo r constituent of the yellow frond exudate of the fern Notholaena sulphurea was iden tified by spectroscopic m ethods as 3 ,5 ,2 '-trihydroxy-7-m ethoxy-8-acetoxy flavone and its struc tu re was confirm ed by synthesis. This novel natural flavonoid was also de tected in the frond exudate of five o ther Notholaena species. In the yellow form of N. sulphurea, the rare 5 ,2 'dihydroxy-7,...
