چکیده
A β-lactamase-producing strain of Neisseria gonorrhoeae with nutritional requirements for arginine, hypoxanthine, and uracil was isolated from the knee-joint fluid, the genital tract, and the sexual partner of a woman presenting with gonococcal arthritis.

A penicillin-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae strain was isolated. The resistance was due to the production of TEM-1 beta-lactamase encoded by a plasmid. This 6.6-kilobase plasmid was compared with the previously known 7.4- and 5.3-kilobase penicillin R plasmids of N. gonorrhoeae.

Ro 15-8074, a new cephalosporin the pivaloyloxymethylester of which (Ro 15-8075) is orally absorbable, showed greater in vitro activity than cefaclor against 48 Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains, including 25 penicillinase-producing strains. Unlike cefaclor, Ro 15-8074 was unaffected by increase in inoculum size, and it exhibited a remarkable stability against gonococcal beta-lactamase hydrolysis.
