Genetic and Environmental Influences on Intelligence

چکیده
Studies of twins, family members, and adopted children point to significant genetic determinants of intelligence test scores. These and other studies also indicate that environment significantly influences intelligence test scores. Psychologists debate evolutionary and cultural explanations of gender differences in aptitudes and abilities. Environmental differences are perhaps entirely responsible for racial gaps in intelligence. Aptitude tests, which predict performance in a given situation, are necessarily “biased” in the sense that they are sensitive to performance differences caused by cultural experiences. However, the major tests are not biased in that they predict as accurately for one group as for another. Stereotype threat can adversely affect performance and sometimes appears in intelligence testing among African-Americans and women.

Experimental investigation, modeling, and optimization of combined electro-(fenton/coagulation/flotation) process: design of experiments and artificial intelligence systems
In this study, a combined electro-(Fenton/coagulation/flotation) (EF/EC/El) process was studied via degradation of Disperse Orange 25 (DO25) organic dye as a case study. Influences of seven operational parameters on the dye removal efficiency (DR%) were measured: initial pH of the solution (pH0), applied voltage between the anode and cathode (V), initial ferrous ion concentration (CFe), initial...
متن کاملGenetic and environmental influences on the development of intelligence.
Measures of intelligence were collected in 209 twin pairs at 5, 7, 10, and 12 years of age, as part of a longitudinal project on intelligence, brain function, and behavioral problems. Intelligence was measured at 5, 7, and 10 years of age with the RAKIT, a well-known Dutch intelligence test, consisting of 6 subscales. At 12 years of age, the complete WISC-R was administered (12 subscales). Both...
متن کاملChildhood socioeconomic status amplifies genetic effects on adult intelligence.
Studies of intelligence in children reveal significantly higher heritability among groups with high socioeconomic status (SES) than among groups with low SES. These interaction effects, however, have not been examined in adults, when between-families environmental effects are reduced. Using 1,702 adult twins (aged 24-84) for whom intelligence assessment data were available, we tested for intera...
متن کاملOn the genetic and environmental reasons why intelligence correlates with criminal victimization
Researchers have expended considerable effort to understand the causes and correlates of criminal victimization. More recently, scholars have focused on identifying individual-level traits that increase the odds of victimization. Generally absent from this line of research, however, is examining the extent to which previously unmeasured genetic and environmental influences contribute to the cov...
متن کاملGenetic and Environmental Covariance Structures among WlSC - R Subtests " A Twin Study
Genetic and environmental correlations among 11 Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) subtests were estimated from a sample of 143 twin pairs using the methodology of multivariate behavioral genetics. The genetic correlations among subtests varied in magnitude and exhibited a pattern similar to corresponding phenotypic correlations. Correlations due to within-pair environmen...
