چکیده

268 Role of Coagulation System in ARDS (Hasegawa et a!) T he pathologic findings of the adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are well described and include lung edema, microthrombi, inflammatory cell infiltration, and late fibrosis.”2 The exact pathogenesis of this syndrome, however, is not well characterized. Considerable evidence from clinical and in vivo investigation implicates neutrophils as important tissue injury mediators in ARDS.3’4 There is also compelling evidence that a variety of mediators, including cytokines, proteases, activated complement system fragments, and arachidonic acid metabolites are important amplifiers of the inflammatory response in ARDS.58 Moreover, impaired host defenses and abnormalities

O11: Novel Approaches to Prevent Neuroinflammation by Targeting the Coagulation System

There is growing appreciation that other factors not traditionally considered components of the immune system foster inflammation in multiple sclerosis (MS) and its animal model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). The blood coagulation initiating factor XII was introduced as key mediator of central nervous system (CNS) autoimmunity by modulation of adaptive immune response. Moreov...

Coagulation and fibrinolysis in human acute lung injury--new therapeutic targets?

Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are common, life-threatening causes of acute respiratory failure that arise from a variety of local and systemic insults. The need for new specific therapies has led a number of investigators to examine the role of altered coagulation and fibrinolysis in the pathogenesis of ALI/ARDS. This review summarizes our current unders...

Current understanding in diagnosis and management of factor XIII deficiency

Factor XIII or "fibrin-stabilizing factor," is a transglutaminase circulates in the blood circulation as a hetero tetramer with two catalytic A subunits and two carrier B subunits. This important coagulation factor has a crucial role in clotting cascade and produces strong covalent bonds between soluble formed fibrin monomers during coagulation. This stable cross linked fibrin strands are resis...

Proteinase-activated receptors in fibroproliferative lung disease.

The coagulation cascade plays a central role in the pathogenesis of fibroproliferative lung diseases such as the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) through multifaceted effects on haemostasis, inflammation and tissue repair. However, targeting the coagulation cascade using traditional anticoagulant approaches has not resulted in improved outcomes ...

Feasibility study of coagulation system to greywater treatment and economical comparison with electrocoagulation in mining areas

Coagulants exert a significant influence on removing turbidity, TSS and COD. This study has examined the effects of poly-aluminium chloride (PAC), aluminium sulphate (alum) and ferric chloride on removal of turbidity, TSS, COD from greywater in residential complexes of miners working in decorative stone mines. Also, a comparison was undertaken with the electrocoagulation system to find out whet...
