چکیده
The idea of the ray diagram was introduced by David Charlton, and further elaborated by Yoyo Zhou, in the context of an open problem session held as part of an MIT class 6.885 on Geometric Folding Algorithms in Fall 2007. I thank the participants of that open problem session for helpful early discussions about 2 × n map folding. I would also like to thank Eric Liu for his close help in the early stages of this project and Professor Erik Demaine for his valuable guidance throughout.

Map Folding
A crease pattern is an embedded planar graph on a piece of paper. An m×n map is a rectangular piece of paper with a crease pattern that partitions the paper into an m×n regular grid of unit squares. If a map has a configuration such that all the faces of the map are stacked on a unit square and the paper does not self-intersect, then it is flat foldable, and the linear ordering of the faces is ...

متن کاملHow do we regenerate middle suburban ‘greyfield’ areas?
This bulletin is based on an Investigative Panel project conducted by Professor Peter Newton, Professor Shane Murray, Professor Ron Wakefield, Ms Catherine Murphy, Ms Lee-Anne Khor and Mr Tom Morgan at the AHURI Swinburne-Monash and RMIT Research Centres. The research articulates a new development model for the regeneration of middle suburban residential precincts. How do we regenerate middle s...
متن کاملChromosome folding: driver or passenger of epigenetic state?
Despite a growing understanding of how epigenetic marks such as histone modifications locally modify the activity of the chromatin with which they are associated, we know little about how marked regions on different parts of the genome are able to intercommunicate to effect regulation of gene expression programs. Recent advances in methods that systematically map pairwise chromatin interactions...
متن کاملFunnel-like organization in sequence space determines the distributions of protein stability and folding rate preferred by evolution.
To understand the physical and evolutionary determinants of protein folding, we map out the complete organization of thermodynamic and kinetic properties for protein sequences that share the same fold. The exhaustive nature of our study necessitates using simplified models of protein folding. We obtain a stability map and a folding rate map in sequence space. Comparison of the two maps reveals ...
