چکیده

After orbital exenteration for neoplasia the remaining bony socket is usually lined with skin and the deformity covered with a prosthesis; in many cases this is acceptable to the patient. However, in certain circumstances, especially in younger patients, a request for some form of reconstruction is made. In the past this has involved multistaged local or distant flaps, lined by skin grafts (Meyer, 1971; Carraway et al., 1976) and usually leaves extensive scarring around the orbit. The use of a neurovascular free flap from the first web space of the foot to reconstruct eyelids after exenteration has not to the best of our knowledge been done before. A 23-year-old man had an orbital exenteration carried out IO years previously for a rhabdomyosarcoma. The bony socket had been lined with a split skin graft (Fig. I). He had found an external prosthesis unacceptable and preferred to wear a black eye patch. A free neurovascular flap from the first web space of the foot had previously been described for hand repairs (May et al., 1977) and it occurred to us that it might be used to reconstruct eyelids. The operation was carried out in January 1978.

Reconstruction of Buccal Mucosa, Upper and Lower Lip Defect Using Free Radial Forearm Flap with Palmaris Longus Tendon: A Case Presentation

Introduction: Advanced lip carcinomas can invade adjacent structures. Performing surgery for these cancers will lead to defects in this anatomically and functionally important area and will cause post-op difficulties such as drooling, speech alterations and aesthetic considerations, if not properly managed. Case Report: In this study, we will introduce a radial forearm free flap with palmari...

NEW APPLICATION FOR THE BITEMPORAL (VISOR) FLAP IN RECONSTRUCTION OF ADVANCED LOWER LIP CARCINOMA

Background: Lip carcinoma is a common cancer with a good prognosis and when patients refer early in the course of disease the results of treatment are acceptable. Surgical procedures for reconstruction of lip defects are the use of remaining lip tissue, tissue from the opposite lip, adjacent cheek tissue, distant flaps and microvascular free flaps. The bitemporal (visor) flap is a regional...

Reconstruction of the medial eyelid.

We used a free tarsal-conjunctival grate from the upper eyelid and a nasal-based pedicle skin-muscle flap for reconstruction of the medial aspect of the lower eyelid. This had the advantage of confining the reconstruction to the local area and eliminated the need for a temporal flap or an eyelid sharing procedure that necessitates occluding the fissure for several weeks.
