SUMS OF ADJOINT ORBITS AND L–SINGULAR DICHOTOMY FOR SU(m)

چکیده
Let G be a real compact connected simple Lie group, and g its Lie algebra. We study the problem of determining, from root data, when a sum of adjoint orbits in g, or a product of conjugacy classes in G, contains an open set. Our general methods allow us to determine exactly which sums of adjoint orbits in su(m) and products of conjugacy classes in SU(m) contain an open set, in terms of the highest multiplicities of eigenvalues. For su(m) and SU(m) we show L–singular dichotomy: The convolution of invariant measures on adjoint orbits, or conjugacy classes, is either singular to Haar measure or in L.

Slodowy Slices and Universal Poisson Deformations
We classify the nilpotent orbits in a simple Lie algebra for which the restriction of the adjoint quotient map to a Slodowy slice is the universal Poisson deformation of its central fibre. This generalises work of Brieskorn and Slodowy on subregular orbits. In particular, we find in this way new singular symplectic hypersurfaces of dimension 4 and 6. In this paper, we look for metrics of cohomogeneity one in D = 8 and D = 7 dimensions with Spin(7) and G 2 holonomy respectively. In D = 8, we first consider the case of principal orbits that are S 7 , viewed as an S 3 bundle over S 4 with triaxial squashing of the S 3 fibres. This gives a more general system of first-order equations for Spin(7) holonomy than has been solved previously. Using n...

We continue the investigation of Spin(7) holonomy metric of cohomogeneity one with the principal orbit SU(3)/U(1). A special choice of U(1) embedding in SU(3) allows more general metric ansatz with five metric functions. There are two possible singular orbits in the first order system of Spin(7) instanton equation. One is the flag manifold SU(3)/T 2 also known as the twister space of CP(2) and ...

During its five-year mission, the Kepler spacecraft has uncovered a diverse population of planetary systems with orbital configurations ranging from single-transiting planets to systems of multiple planets co-transiting the parent star. By comparing the relative occurrences of multiple to single-transiting systems, recent analyses have revealed a significant over-abundance of singles. Dubbed th...
متن کاملA Dichotomy in Orbit-growth for Commuting Automorphisms
We consider asymptotic orbit-counting problems for certain expansive actions by commuting automorphisms of compact groups. A dichotomy is found between systems with asymptotically more periodic orbits than the topological entropy predicts, and those for which there is no excess of periodic orbits. Let G be a countable group acting on some set X, with the action written x 7→ g.x. Let L = L(G) de...
