Minimizing Airport Peaks Problem by Improving Airline Operations Performance through an Agent Based System

چکیده
Airports are important infra-structures for the air transportation business. One of the major operational constraints is the peaks of passengers in specific periods of time. Airline companies take into consideration the airport capacity when building the airline schedule and, because of that, the execution of the airline operational plan can contribute to improve or avoid airport peaks problems. The Airline Operations Control Center (AOCC) tries to solve unexpected problems that might occur during the airline operation. Problems related to aircrafts, crewmembers and passengers are common and the actions towards the solution of these problems are usually known as operations recovery. In this paper we propose a way of measuring the AOCC performance that takes into consideration the relation that exists between airline schedule and airport peaks. The implementation of a Distributed Multi-Agent System (MAS) representing the existing roles in an AOCC, is presented. We show that the MAS contributes to minimize airport peaks without increasing the operational costs of the airlines.

Column Generation and the Airline Crew Pairing Problem
The cost of ight crews is the second largest operating cost of an airline. Minimizing it is a fundamental problem in airline planning and operations, and one which has leant itself to mathematical optimization. We discuss several recent advances in the methods used to solve these problems. After describing the general approach taken, we discuss a new method which can be used to obtain approxima...
متن کاملAn Integrated Scheduling and Operations Approach to Airport Congestion Mitigation
Most flight delays are created by imbalances between demand and capacity at the busiest airports. Absent large increases in capacity, airport congestion can only be mitigated through scheduling interventions or improved capacity utilization. This paper presents an integrated approach that jointly optimizes the airport’s flight schedule at the strategic level and the utilization of airport capac...

The Flexible Job Shop Scheduling Problem (FJSP) is one of the most general and difficult of all traditional scheduling problems. The Flexible Job Shop Problem (FJSP) is an extension of the classical job shop scheduling problem which allows an operation to be processed by any machine from a given set. The problem is to assign each operation to a machine and to order the operations on the machine...

Nowadays, in-flight comfort has become an essential characteristic to survive in domestic airline businesses. Air hostesses’ quality of service and response time to customer demand plays a vital role in enhancing quality of the flight experience and passenger satisfaction. However, additional requirements on air hostess expose them to fatigue which could eventually result in job dissatisfac...
