چکیده

Invertebrates and their dormant stages are an essential component of most freshwater and marine ecosystems (Cáceres 1997). As the active invertebrate community has a very variable distribution, both in time and space (Arnott et al. 1999, Folt & Burns 1999), reliable assessment of community diversity consequently requires repeated sampling across multiple locations for a prolonged period of time. Various invertebrate taxa produce dormant stages such as dormant eggs (also called diapausing eggs or resting eggs), cysts, or statoblasts that often sink and accumulate in sediments, forming ‘egg banks’ (Brendonck & De Meester 2003). Dormant stages provide a mechanism for invertebrates to endure inhospitable environments and to undertake natural long-distance dispersal (Cáceres 1997). Sediment egg banks integrate spatial, seasonal and annual variation in the abundance and distribution of invertebrates (Brendonck & De Meester 2003, Jeppesen et al. 2003). To accurately assess community composition for purposes of taxonomy, ecological biogeography, paleolimnology, nature conservation, and evolutionary, community, population and invasion ecology, both active and dor mant stages of taxa should be considered (Brendonck & De Meester 2003). کاربرد الگوریتم‌های داده‌کاوی در تفکیک منابع رسوبی حوزۀ آبخیز نوده گناباد

Introduction: Reduction of sediment supply requires the implementation of soil conservation and sediment control programs in the form of watershed management plans. Sediment control programs require identifying the relative importance of sediment sources, their quantitative ascription and identification of critical areas within the watersheds. The sediment source ascription is involves two...

Estimation of Friction Coefficient in Sediment Contained Flow through Rockfill

An increase in the flow velocity in flowthrough large porous media and deflection of flow regime from Darcy law causes a nonlinear relationship between hydraulic gradient and pore velocity of media. So many investigations have done previously in such Medias. One of the most important subjects in flowthrough large porous media is relationship between friction coefficient and flow characteristics...

Microbeads in Sediment, Dreissenid Mussels, and Anurans in the Littoral Zone of the Upper St. Lawrence River, New York.

Global plastic production has exceeded 300 million tons per year (Plastics Europe, 2015). In the marine and freshwater environments, larger plastics abrade and photo-degrade resulting in persistent environmental microplastics that are not effectively removed by existing wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The ecological effects of microplastics on the marine environment are poorly understood, ...

Flood-mediated dispersal versus hatching: early recolonisation strategies of copepods in floodplain ponds

1. We explored the quantitative contribution of two alternative recolonisation strategies by a combination of experimental and field data from the Little Tallahatchie floodplain (Mississippi, U.S.A.). In this area, several floods of short duration occur in winter and spring. During floods, lentic and lotic waterbodies of different size are connected for a limited period. 2. Shortly before the o...
