A Logarithmic Slow-Start Algorithm of TCP Vegas in IP networks

چکیده
In numerous TCP congestion control algorithms, TCP Vegas avoids congestion on its own initiative. However, its slow-start ending quickly and growing unsmoothly cause that the congestin window designing too small and bandwidth utilization declining too rapid, furthermore affect network efficiency and throughput dropping. . . etc. Aimed at the deficiencies, we propose a kind of Logarithmic Slow-Start Algorithm of TCP Vegas (LSSA-TCP Vegas) to conduct the dynamics of congestion window. We analyze stability condition from the theory via the Nyquist stability criterion and study the issue such as convergence of the algorithm, configuration parameters. Our goal in this paper is to study and compare the performance of LSSA-TCP Vegas and other TCP congestion control algorithms under various network scenarios. The simulation results demonstrate that the algorithm vs the bug of TCP Vegas contains obvious improvements. We believe that Logarithmic Slow-Start Algorithm can be used to provide the better performance of TCP Vegas.

Congestion Control Schemes for TCP/IP Networks
This paper describes six methods for controlling congestion for TCP connections. The first four, Slow Start algorithm [5], Tri-S [8], DUAL [7], and TCP Vegas [1] treat the network as a black box, in that the only way to detect congestion is through packet loss and changes in round trip time, or throughput. The last two, Random Early Detection [4] and Explicit Congestion Notification [3] depend ...

TCP Vegas is regarded as balanced congestion control strategy, however, shortcomings such as low bandwidth utilization and not gain fairness when sharing link with TCP Reno. We reinvestigate these issues and propose a modification strategy called Dynamic Vegas, which changes initial TCP Vegas’ in slow start and congestion avoidance phase. It dynamically chooses slow start algorithm and adjust d...
متن کاملPerformance of TCP Vegas, Bic and Reno Congestion Control Algorithms on Iridium Satellite Constellations
Satellite networking is different from wired or wireless networks. The behavior and the performance of TCP/IP in normal wireless network as well as in wired network are different from one another. The TCP/IP protocol was not designed to perform well over high-latency or noisy channels so its performance over satellite networks are totally different. Each satellite networks/constellations have d...
متن کاملOn the transient behavior of TCP Vegas
Research has shown that TCP Vegas performs better than TCP Reno with respect to overall network utilization, stability, fairness, throughput, packet loss, and burstiness. In this paper, we analyze and improve the transient behavior of TCP Vegas, an important issue in today’s large “bandwidth-delay product” networks. To quantify of our analysis, we introduce a new metric that captures the transi...

This paper shows that in asymmetric networks in which the bottleneck is on the reverse path rather than on the forward path, its performance can be significantly lower t...
