Giant magnetic-field-induced strains in Heusler alloy NiMnGa with modified composition

چکیده
A giant magnetic-field-induced strain ~MFIS! of 23100 ppm has been obtained in Heusler alloy Ni52Mn22.2Ga25.8 single crystal in the @001# direction at a temperature from 23 to 31 °C. This MFIS reaches saturation in an applied field about 6 kOe, and exhibits the same amplitude with an opposite sign while the field is perpendicular to the samples. According to a previous model, this MFIS associates with the twin boundary motion. The martensitic self-strain has been found to be 2%, implying a preferential orientation of martensite variants. Results related to the magnetic properties are discussed. © 1999 American Institute of Physics. @S0003-6951~99!02545-0#

متن کاملGamma Irradiation Effect on Asymmetric Giant Magnetoimpedance of Co68.15Fe4.35Si12.5B15 Amorphous Alloy
The giant magneto impedance (GMI) effect is a large variation in the electrical impedance of a magnetic conductor when subjected to a static magnetic field. The sensitivity to the direction (AGMI) and magnitude of applied magnetic field and also linearity levels of this effect are three important parameters in magnetic sensors application. A suitable annealing procedure can be used to ac...

Large magnetic-field-induced strain ~MFIS! of 22700 ppm has been obtained from the Heusler alloy Ni52Mn23Ga25 at 300 K. The temperature for structure transformation was confirmed by three types of magnetic measurements. A burst of MFIS up to 5400 ppm could be induced by rotating a steady field of 1 T. In the martensitic phase, the material have a high saturated magnetization of 66 Am/kg and a h...

In recent years, a lot of investigations have been focused on ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMAS), such as Ni2MnGa, FePd, CoNi and FeNiCoTi [1–4], due to their large magnetic-field induced strain (MFIS) and high response frequency. Of the above alloys Ni Mn Ga alloy is the only known Heusler alloy exhibiting thermal martensitic phase transformation. It is reported up to now that a maximum...
متن کاملMetamagnetic shape memory effect in a Heusler-type Ni43Co7Mn39Sn11 polycrystalline alloy
Shape memory and magnetic properties of a Ni43Co7Mn39Sn11 Heusler polycrystalline alloy were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, the sample extraction method, and the three-terminal capacitance method. A unique martensitic transformation from the ferromagnetic parent phase to the antiferromagneticlike martensite phase was detected and magnetic-field-induced “reverse” transition w...
