چکیده

The nuclei of mammalian liver cells have been shown to contain, in addition to desoxypentose nucleic acid (DNA), a pentose nucleic acid (PNA) which is functionally different from the PNA of the cytoplasm (1). In the investigations to be described here the proport, ions of purine and pyrimidine in these two types of PNA in calf liver, kidney, thymus, and heart have been found to be strikingly different from each other and to differ also from the base ratios of DNA. This evidence of structural difference supports the previous finding of metabolic differences in these nucleic acids. The data presented also have a significant bearing on the problem of cell differentiation by showing that, although one nucleic acid of the nucleus (DNA) may remain unchanged in composition in the course of embryologicaldevelopment, another (PNA) shows marked variation. Since the nucleic acids also appear to be related to genie structure and function, the data also are of significance in this connection.

Nucleic acid stability in thermophilic prokaryotes: a review

In order to survive at temperatures of ≥60°C, thermophilic prokaryotes (Archaea and Eubacteria) have adopted different strategies. These strategies include high CG content in the coding sequences, nucleotide arrangement of purine-purine and pyrimidine-pyrimidine, methylation of nucleotides, histone/histone like proteins, reverse gyrase, cations, etc., also provide thermal stability to genome. The composition of uterine and endometrial nucleic acid.

It has been shown by Vendrely and Vendrely (1, 2) that the average desoxypentose nucleic acid (DNA) content per cell is constant in several tissues. Employing microspectrophotometric analysis of single cells, Leuchtenberger and Schrader (3) have pointed out that the cellular DNA content of the same type of cell may vary by as much as a factor of 30 and that the DNA content of each cell is relat...

Divergent prebiotic synthesis of pyrimidine and 8-oxo-purine ribonucleotides

Understanding prebiotic nucleotide synthesis is a long standing challenge thought to be essential to elucidating the origins of life on Earth. Recently, remarkable progress has been made, but to date all proposed syntheses account separately for the pyrimidine and purine ribonucleotides; no divergent synthesis from common precursors has been proposed. Moreover, the prebiotic syntheses of pyrimi...

Nuclear Precipitates in Pyroantimonate-osmium Tetroxide-fixed Tissues

Recent biochemical studies indicate a significant role for sodium ions in nuclear metabolism. Protein and nucleic acid syntheses in the nucleus depend upon sodium, apparently through a stimulating effect of this cation on the transport of amino acid, purine, and pyrimidine into the nucleus (1). The nuclei of avian erythrocytes and calf thymocytes appear to contain higher sodium concentrations t...
