Nutrient induced changes in the species composition of epiphytes on Cladophora glomerata Ktz. (Chlorophyta)

Cladophora glomerata is a widely distributed filamentous freshwater alga that hosts a complex microalgal epiphyte assemblage. We manipulated nutrients and epiphyte abundances to access their effects on epiphyte biomass, epiphyte species composition, and C. glomerata growth. C. glomerata did not grow in response to these manipulations. Similarly, nutrient and epiphyte removal treatments did not ...

Spatiotemporal dynamics of the bacterial microbiota on lacustrine Cladophora glomerata (Chlorophyta).

The branched periphytic green alga Cladophora glomerata, often abundant in nearshore waters of lakes and rivers worldwide, plays important ecosystem roles, some mediated by epibiotic microbiota that benefit from host-provided surface, organic C, and O2 . Previous microscopy and high-throughput sequencing studies have indicated surprising epibiont taxonomic and functional diversity, but have not...

The Cladophora glomerata Enriched by Biosorption Process in Cr(III) Improves Viability, and Reduces Oxidative Stress and Apoptosis in Equine Metabolic Syndrome Derived Adipose Mesenchymal Stromal Stem Cells (ASCs) and Their Extracellular Vesicles (MV’s)

This study investigated in vitro effects of freshwater alga Cladophora glomerata water extract enriched during a biosorption process in Cr(III) trivalent chromium and chromium picolinate on adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal stem cells (ASCs) and extracellular microvesicles (MVs) in equine metabolic syndrome-affected horses. Chemical characterisation of natural Cladophora glomerata was perform...

Evaluation of antibacterial activities in Cladophora glomerata and Enteromorpha intestinalis

Cladophora and Enteromorpha are the filamentous green-algal genuses that have a widespread distribution in Caspian Sea Coast. The aim of this study was to assess the antimicrobial activities of Cladophora and Enteromorpha in South of Caspian Sea. Antibacterial activities of hydroalcoholic extracts of five different gram negative and positive bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus su...

Molecular Phylogeography and Species Discrimination of Freshwater Cladophora (Cladophorales, Chlorophyta) in North America

Cladophora is a widespread freshwater filamentous cholorophyte genus and is frequently observed in eutrophic waters where it can produce large nuisance blooms. These blooms can have direct impacts on water intake for power generation, irrigation canals and can be aesthetically unpleasant. Much of the ecological and physiological studies on Cladophora have assumed that the populations of this ge...
