Are Helium Line Intensities Affected by Abundance Variations?
نویسنده
چکیده
Solar wind measurements show that the helium abundance in the outer solar atmosphere is not constant. Recent research has isolated some of the physical mechanisms that determine helium abundance variations along an open magnetic field line: gravitational settling in both the chromosphere and corona tends to transport helium downward, while the thermal force in the transition region and the drag force exerted by solar wind protons in the corona transport helium outward, and mixing processes work towards keeping everything in balance. The mixing efficiency is conceivably different in magnetically open and closed regions; and wind drag is missing altogether in the latter. This paper discusses if such differences might help to understand some of the features observed in the important helium lines. ed. B. Kaldeich-Schürmann,ESA-SP 446 (1999), in press

Evaluation of variable relative biological effectiveness and the creation of homogenous biological dose in the tumor region in helium ion radiation to the V79 cell line
In radiation therapy, ions heavier than proton have more biological advantages than a proton beam. Recently, ion helium has been considered due to high linear energy transfer (LET) to the medium and a higher relative biological effect (RBE). To design the spread-out Bragg peak (SOBP) of biological dose for radiation with any type of ion, we need exact values of RBE, which is dependent to dose, ...
متن کاملASTROPHYSICS Properties of He - rich stars
We present a study of helium rich atmospheres in the interval He/H 0.1–1.0 as derived from fully consistent model computations for effective temperature (from 15000K up to 32000K) and surface gravity (log g=3.5 and 4.0). Also the basic diagnostic tools are re-examined, particularly, broad-band UBV and intermediate photometric systems, hydrogen line profiles, continuum fluxes and helium equivale...
متن کاملEnhancement of the helium resonance lines in the solar atmosphere by suprathermal electron excitation II: non-Maxwellian electron distributions
In solar euv spectra the He i and He ii resonance lines show unusual behaviour and have anomalously high intensities compared with other transition region lines. The formation of the helium resonance lines is investigated through extensive non-LTE radiative transfer calculations. The model atmospheres of Vernazza, Avrett & Loeser (1981) are found to provide reasonable matches to the helium reso...
متن کاملSpectroscopy of planetary nebulae in M 33 ⋆
Spectroscopic observations of 48 emission-line objects of M 33 have been obtained with the multi-object, wide field, fibre spectrograph AF2/WYFFOS at the 4.2m WHT telescope (La Palma, Spain). Line intensities and logarithmic extinction, cβ, are presented for 42 objects. Their location in the Sabbadin & D’Odorico diagnostic diagram (Hα/[S ii] vs Hα/[N ii]) suggests that >70% of the candidates ar...
متن کاملEmission intensities and line ratios from a fast neutral helium beam
The emission intensities and line ratios from a fast neutral helium beam is investigated in the Madison Symmetric Torus MST R. N. Dexter, D. W. Kerst, T. W. Lovell, S. C. Prager, and J. C. Sprott, Fusion Technol. 19, 131 1991 . Predicted He I line intensities and line ratios from a recently developed collisional-radiative model are compared with experiment. The intensity of singlet lines comes ...
