چکیده

The spectral sensitivities of the dorsal ocelli of cockroaches (Periplaneta americana, Blaberus craniifer) and worker honeybees (Apis mellifera) have been measured by electrophysiological methods. The relative numbers of quanta necessary to produce a constant size electrical response in the ocellus were measured at various wave lengths between 302 and 623 mmicro. The wave form of the electrical response (ERG) of the dark-adapted roach ocellus depends on the intensity but not the wave length of the stimulating light. The roach ocellus appears to possess a single photoreceptor type, maximally sensitive about 500 mmicro. The ERG's of bee ocelli are qualitatively different in the ultraviolet and visible regions of the spectrum. The bee ocellus has two types of photoreceptor, maximally sensitive at 490 mmicro and at about 335 to 340 mmicro. The spectral absorption of the ocellar cornea of Blaberus craniifer was measured. There is no significant absorption between 350 and 700 mmicro.

Regional differences in the preferred e-vector orientation of honeybee ocellar photoreceptors.

In addition to compound eyes, honeybees (Apis mellifera) possess three single-lens eyes called ocelli located on the top of the head. Ocelli are involved in head-attitude control and in some insects have been shown to provide celestial compass information. Anatomical and early electrophysiological studies have suggested that UV and blue-green photoreceptors in ocelli are polarization sensitive....

Ocellar structure and neural innervation in the honeybee

Honeybees have a visual system composed of three ocelli (simple eyes) located on the top of the head, in addition to two large compound eyes. Although experiments have been conducted to investigate the role of the ocelli within the visual system, their optical characteristics, and function remain controversial. In this study, we created three-dimensional (3-D) reconstructions of the honeybee oc...

Spectral inputs and ocellar contributions to a pitch-sensitive descending neuron in the honeybee.

By measuring insect compensatory optomotor reflexes to visual motion, researchers have examined the computational mechanisms of the motion processing system. However, establishing the spectral sensitivity of the neural pathways that underlie this motion behavior has been difficult, and the contribution of the simple eyes (ocelli) has been rarely examined. In this study we investigate the spectr...

Assessment of environmental sensitivity of cockroaches in Bandar Abbas sewage system to poison Pyrethroids and Carbamates insecticides

Introduction: Bandar Abbas sewage system is one of the areas in great quality of cockroaches. In spite of passing a short time from exploitation of this system (since 1383), It is necessary considering the cockroaches abundance and the best way of fighting against this insect. Methods: In this investigation four poisons of delta metrine, sypermetrine, Permetrine and Sevin, were selected to t...

The Spectral Sensitivities of Single Receptor Cells in the Lateral, Median, and Ventral Eyes of Normal and White-Eyed Limulus

Spectral sensitivity curves can be distorted by screening pigments. We have determined whether this is true for Limulus polyphemus by determining, from receptor potentials recorded using intracellular microelectrodes, spectral sensitivity curves for normal animals and for white-eyed animals (which lack screening pigment). Our results show: (a) In median ocelli, the curve for UV-sensitive recept...
