چکیده

[1] During summer 2004, HNO3 and size-resolved aerosols were measured in parallel, and corresponding dry-deposition fluxes were modeled at Appledore Island, Maine, as part of the International Consortium for Atmospheric Research on Transport and Transformation (ICARTT) field program. HNO3 concentrations varied widely on the timescale of hours; however, all days were characterized by a minimum near sunrise. Mixing ratios normally peaked in the early afternoon; maximum and median concentrations of HNO3 during the campaign were 337 and 22.8 nmol m , respectively. Aerosol NO3 exhibited a bimodal size distribution with a primary peak associated with sea salt at 4 mm and a secondary sub-mm peak. The median NO3 concentrations in suband super-mm diameter size fractions were 3.3 and 7.7 nmol m , respectively. Peak HNO3 and super-mm NO3 concentrations were associated with westerly and southwesterly flow regimes respectively. The multiphase cycling of HNO3 was evaluated as a function of transport sector. Although median total nitrate (HNO3 + NO3 ) concentrations were higher under westerly flow, higher median dry-deposition rates of total nitrate were associated with southwesterly flow. Sea-salt concentrations were 3 times greater during southwesterly flow, which shifted the phase partitioning toward particulate NO3 . Consequently, under westerly flow, HNO3 deposited more quickly than aerosol NO3 , while for southwesterly flow, the fluxes from the two phases were comparable. On the basis of all data, the median dry-deposition fluxes for HNO3 and aerosol NO3 were 8.2 and 5.6 mmol m 2 d ; super-mm size fractions dominated the NO3 flux.

Effect of Nitric acid on Particle Morphology of the Nano-TiO2

Nano-sized titanium dioxide TiO2 powder was prepared by new wet chemical route from its precursor Titanium (IV) chloride (TiCl4) as precursor with isopropoxy alcohol in presence of nitric acid under ambient condition. Their morphologies, phase compositions and components of the TiO2 nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron ...

Synthesis of Nano-Sized Titania Particles by Hydrolysis of Titanium Tetrachloride

Nano-sized titanium dioxide TiO2 powder was successfully prepared from its precursor titanium (IV) chloride by a simple and new wet chemical method. TiCl4 were used as precursor in hydrogen peroxide, H2O2 and ethanol. This solution was then peptized using nitric acid and heated under reflux at 80°C. Their physico-chemical properties were then characterized by transmission electron microscopy (T...

Fine particle pH and gas-particle phase partitioning of inorganic species in Pasadena, California, during the 2010 CalNex campaign

pH is a fundamental aerosol property that affects ambient particle concentration and composition, linking pH to all aerosol environmental impacts. Here, PM1 and PM2.5 pH are calculated based on data from measurements during the California Research at the Nexus of Air Quality and Climate Change (CalNex) study from 15 May to 15 June 2010 in Pasadena CA. Particle pH and water were predicted with t...

Importance of mineral cations and organics in gas-aerosol partitioning of reactive nitrogen compounds: case study based on MINOS results

The partitioning of reactive nitrogen compounds between the gas and the aerosol phase, as observed during the MINOS (Mediterranean INtensive Oxidant Study) campaign in Crete, Greece, in July and August 2001, has been studied with three thermodynamic gas-aerosol equilibrium models (EQMs) of different chemical complexity: ISORROPIA, which is limited to the ammonium-sulfatenitrate-sodium-chloride-...
