Estimation in Longitudinal Random Effects Models with Measurement Error

چکیده
Estimation of the regression parameters and variance components in a longitudinal mixed model with measurement error in a time-varying covariate is considered. The positive bias in variance estimators caused by covariate measurement error in a normal linear mixed model has recently been identified and studied (Tosteson, Buonaccorsi and Demidenko (1997)). The methods suggested there for correction of the bias involve convenient adaptations of existing software for a particular model. In this paper, we study alternative methods of estimation which achieve higher efficiencies and extend readily to a more general class of models. Full and pseudo-maximum likelihood estimators under normality are considered as is a pseudo-moment approach relying on initial estimation of nuisance parameters. The latter lead to a “regression calibration” method for estimating the regression parameters, in which a substitution is made for the unknown covariates, followed by a correction for estimation of the variance parameters. It is shown that for some cases this yields the pseudo-maximum likelihood estimates and, in these cases, the resulting estimators are highly efficient relative to the full maximum likelihood estimators. We first consider a model with no additional data, where identifiability follows from assumptions about the longitudinal model for the unobserved true covariates, and then describe some extensions to cases where either replicate or validation data is available. We illustrate with an example investigating the relationship between dietary and serum beta-carotene.

Semi-parametric Quantile Regression for Analysing Continuous Longitudinal Responses
Recently, quantile regression (QR) models are often applied for longitudinal data analysis. When the distribution of responses seems to be skew and asymmetric due to outliers and heavy-tails, QR models may work suitably. In this paper, a semi-parametric quantile regression model is developed for analysing continuous longitudinal responses. The error term's distribution is assumed to be Asymmetr...
متن کاملStructural inference in transition measurement error models for longitudinal data.
We propose a new class of models, transition measurement error models, to study the effects of covariates and the past responses on the current response in longitudinal studies when one of the covariates is measured with error. We show that the response variable conditional on the error-prone covariate follows a complex transition mixed effects model. The naive model obtained by ignoring the me...

A new heterodyne nano-displacement with error reduction is presented. The main errors affecting the displacement accuracy of the nano-displacement measurement system including intermodulation distortion error, cross-talk error, cross-polarization error and phase detection error are calculated. In the designed system, a He-Ne laser having three-longitudinal-mode is considered as the stabiliz...
متن کاملBayesian Determination of Sample Size in Longitudinal Studies with Binary Responses Using Random Effects Models
Sample size determination is important in all statistical studies including longitudinal studies. This is usually done by considering a target power to reduce the costs of sampling. Choosing the right sample size using efficient methods, ensures that the researcher achieve goal of the study, by spending the least amount of energy, time and money. In this article, using a method based on simulat...

In this study, the stochastic restricted and unrestricted two-parameter estimators of fixed and random effects are investigated in the linear mixed measurement error models. For this purpose, the asymptotic properties and then the comparisons under the criterion of mean squared error matrix (MSEM) are derived. Furthermore, the proposed methods are used for estimating the biasing parameters. Fin...
