A Comparative Study Between Two Types of Database Management Systems: XML-Enabled Relational and Native XML

چکیده
As there is an increase use of XML documents to store and exchange data over the web, there is a great need for a database management system able to store, retrieve and manipulate XML data with an efficient manner, here the XML database (XML DB) can cope this request. Most XML DB which is often called XML-enabled databases is a legacy database systems (mostly relational) extended to store, retrieve and manipulate XML data; few of them are native XML databases that directly and naturally support XML data by capturing all the characteristics of XML data representation. The two XML DB types have different characteristics and performance which make it difficult to choose the best XML DB to suit XML data. Thus, the major objective of this paper is to explore and compare between the performances of both: XML-enabled database and native XML database. Regarding this matter, our paper search for deciding whether an XMLenabled relational database, as a relatively mature technology, or native XML database is suitable for storing XML data in a way that allow an efficient query performance. Our runing experimental proved that the native XML database is performing better than XML-enabled relational database for XMark benchmark queries.

A Comparative Analysis of XML Documents, XML Enabled Databases and Native XML Databases
With the increasing popularity of XML data and a great need for a database management system able to store, retrieve and manipulate XML-based data in an efficient manner, database research communities and software industries have tried to respond to this requirement. XML-enabled database and native XML database are two approaches that have been proposed to address this challenge. These two appr...

As moving to big data world where data is increasing in unstructured way with high velocity, there is a need of data-store to store this bundle amount of data. Traditionally, relational databases are used which are now not compatible to handle this large amount of data, so it is needed to move on to non-relational data-stores. In the current study, we have proposed an extension of the Mongo...

With XML becoming a standard for semi-structured documents on the web and a standard for data exchange between different systems in e-commerce and e-business, some database companies are adding XML support to their existing database systems, while on the other hand some other companies coming out with pure or native database systems for XML. In this paper, the present an experimental study on t...

EXtensible Markup Language (XML) promises to be the standard language for data representation in e-business, particularly when that data is exchanged over or browsed on the Internet since it is nested and having a self-describing structure that provides a simple yet flexible means for business applications to model and exchange data. There are two alternative database types used for of storing ...
