Acute alterations of body composition after open intracardiac operations.

چکیده
The body composition of patients with heart disease is acutely altered by surgical intervention. Interrelations and causes of the alterations have not been clear. Twenty patients were studied preoperatively and again 2 to 4 days after open intracardiac operations. In nine, measurements were made of the volumes of total body water, extracellular water, plasma, and red cells, and of the amounts of total exchangeable sodium and potassium. In an additional four patients total exchangeable sodium and potassium were measured, and in another seven only exchangeable sodium

Regression of body compositional abnormalities of heart failure after intracardiac operations.
SUMMARY Alterations in body composition are present in patients with heart disease and conges-tive heart failure, and additional changes occur acutely after corrective surgery. The reversibility and time course of reversion to normal body composition have not been demonstrated. Nine patients were studied preoperatively and 2 to 4 weeks and 6 to 12 mo postoperatively. Measurements were made, usi...
متن کاملR-wave amplitude variations during acute experimental myocardial ischemia: an inadequate index for changes in intracardiac volume.
The role of intracardiac volume in controlling electrocardiographic R-wave amplitude changes during acute myocardial ischemia was studied in 24 open-chest dogs. The R-wave amplitude in surface ECG leads 2, V5 and Frank X, Y and Z leads were correlated with hemodynamic, echocardiographic and angiographic changes in a 5-minute circumflex coronary artery ligation and reperfusion model. After coron...
متن کاملAcute Effects of Inhalants on Alterations of Quantitative Electroencephalogram
Background and purpose: Inhaling substances are hydrocarbons that are converted to gas at room temperature and enter the lungs through the nose and mouth and then our brain. Neurological and psychiatric effects are reported following inhalation, however, there are few studies about acute effect of inhalant on brain electroencephalogram (EEG). Materials and methods: This observational study wa...
متن کاملAssessment of Mercuric Chloride Intoxication in albino Rats on the Basis of Hepatobiochemistry, Serum Biochemistry, Histochemistry & Histopathologh
Background: Exposure to any xenobiotic can disturb the metabolic activities of particular organs. Hence present study is designed to find changes in hepatic biochemistry, histochemistry and histopathology besides serum enzyme levels after acute and sub-acute treatment with mercuric chloride, a heavy metallic compound, in albino rat (Rattus norvegicus). Materials & methods: Thirty albino rat...

Changes in plasma osmolality, urine osmolality, urine volume, total osmolal output, and free osmolal output have been studied in children between 2 and 10 years of age. All underwent elective open intracardiac operations. Plasma hypo-osmol...
