Characteristics of Turbulent Nonpremixed Jet-flames and Jet-flames in Crossflow in Normal- and Low-gravity
نویسنده
چکیده
It is well known that buoyancy has a major influence on the flow structure of turbulent nonpremixed jet flames. For example, previous studies have shown that transitional and turbulent jet flames exhibit flame lengths that are as much as a factor of two longer in microgravity than in normal gravity. The objective of this study is to extend these previous studies by investigating both mean and fluctuating characteristics of turbulent nonpremixed jet flames under three different gravity levels (1 g, 20 mg and 100 μg). This work is described in more detail elsewhere. In addition, we have recently initiated a new study into the effects of buoyancy on turbulent nonpremixed jet flames in cross-flow (JFICF). Buoyancy has been observed to play a key role in determining the centerline trajectories of such flames. The objective of this study is to use the lowgravity environment to study the effects of buoyancy on the turbulent characteristics of JFICF. This work is described in more detail in Ref. 7.

متن کاملTwo-dimensional imaging of soot volume fraction and OH in turbulent jet diffusion flames spanning low to high mixing rates
Simultaneous planar measurements of laser-induced incandescence (LII) and Laser-Induced Fluorescence of OH radical were carried out in turbulent jet flames from a simple jet, precessing jet and bluff body burner firing natural gas. These flames span a wide range of global mixing rates and sooting characteristics, and are selected because measurements of total NOx emissions, radiant fraction and...
متن کاملStudy of Liftoff Mechanism of Nonpremixed Jet Flame near Unity Schmidt Number
Nonpremixed jet flames of dimethyl ether (DME) were studied both experimentally and theoretically to investigate flame liftoff near unity Schmidt number. It was found experimentally that although the DME nonpremixed flames have a Schmidt number larger than unity it cannot be lifted directly by increasing the flow rate. Lifted flames can only be established by igniting the mixture in a narrow re...

متن کاملCharacterization of Periodic, Quasiperiodic, and Chaotic States in Nonpremixed Biodiesel/Air Jet Flames
Characterization for nonpremixed biodiesel/air jet flames instability is investigated by the 0-1 test for chaos and recurrence plots. Test conditions involve biodiesel from Jatropha curcas. Lfueled flames have inlet oil pressure of 0.2–0.6MPa, fuel flow rates Q1 of 15–30 kg/h, and combustion air flow rate Q2 of 150–750m3/h. This method is based on image analysis and nonlinear dynamics.
