Evaluation of ProDisc-C During Low Speed Rear-End Impact: A Full-Body Post Mortem Human Subject Study

چکیده
INTRODUCTION: The potential for harm following low speed rear-end impact for cervical total disc replacement patients is yet unknown. These are among the most common motor vehicle accidents. With FDA approval and as widespread implantation becomes reality, questions of occupant safety must be addressed. Previous studies have tested the cervical spine using isolated head-neck specimens. Yet, such work does not consider compressive loads developed in the spinal column by straightening of thoracic kyphosis or occupant-seat interactions, thus resulting in altered kinematics and kinetics (Figure 1). This study is the first to test full body post mortem human subjects (PMHS) under low speed rear-end impacts for cervical response in the orthopaedic literature, per the authors’ knowledge.

A New Test Method for the Assessment of Neck Injuries in Rear-end Collisions
Whiplash injuries due to rear-end car collisions is one of the most aggravating traffic safety problems with serious implications for the European society. Yearly more than a million European citizens suffer neck injuries from rear-end car collisions, implying tremendous societal costs. Therefore the European Community has sponsored the European Whiplash project. The objective of this paper is ...
متن کاملBiomechanical responses of PMHS in moderate-speed rear impacts and development of response targets for evaluating the internal and external biofidelity of ATDS.
The objectives of this study were to obtain biomechanical responses of post mortem human subjects (PMHS) by subjecting them to two moderate-speed rear impact sled test conditions (8.5g, 17 km/h; 10.5g, 24 km/h) while positioned in an experimental seat system, and to create biomechanical targets for internal and external biofidelity evaluation of rear impact ATDs. The experimental seat was desig...
متن کاملDevelopment and Evaluation of a New Rear-Impact Crash Dummy: The RID 2.
Low severity neck injuries due to vehicle accidents are a serious problem in our society. In 1997 the European Whiplash project started with the aim to develop passive safety methodologies to reduce the frequency of neck injuries in rear-end impacts. This project has resulted, among others, in a rear impact crash dummy, the so-called RID2. The objective of this paper is present the design of th...
متن کاملEvaluation of Fascioliasis, Hydatidosis, and Tuberculosis in Domestic Animals during Post-Mortem Inspection at Jijel Slaughterhouse (Algeria)
Background: Some animal infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, hydatidosis, and fascioliasis cause public health concerns and also significant economic losses. The goal of this study was to assess the rate of fascioliasis, hydatidosis, and tuberculosis in domestic animals during post-mortem inspection at Jijel slaughterhouse, North-Eastern Algeria. Methods: The present study was carried out...
متن کاملDesign, tuning, and evaluation of a full-range adaptive cruise control system with collision avoidance
This paper describes the design, tuning, and evaluation of a full-range adaptive cruise control (ACC) system with collision avoidance (CA). The control scheme is designed to improve drivers’ comfort during normal, safe-driving situations and to completely avoid rear-end collision in vehicle-following situations. Driving situations are divided into safe, warning, and dangerous modes. Three diffe...
