Enhancing Semistructured Data Mediators with Document Type Definitions

چکیده
Mediation is an important application of XML. The MIX mediator uses Document Type De nitions (DTDs) to assist the user in query formulation and query processors in running queries more e ciently. We provide an algorithm for inferring the view DTD from the view de nition and the source DTDs. We develop a metric of the quality of the inference algorithm's view DTD by formalizing the notions of soundness and tightness. Intuitively, tightness is similar to precision, i.e., it deteriorates when \many" objects described by the view DTD can never appear as content of the view. In addition we show that DTDs have some inherent deciencies that prevent the development of tight DTDs. We propose \DTDs with specialization" as a way to resolve this problem.

Evolving Document Type Definitions (DTDs) for Integrated Health Data
The appetite for timely, accurate health data is continuously growing (e.g. [DiSt97]). The increasing volume of data collected from servers and other sources creates new needs for a future totally integrated health information system. The database (structure and system) plays a very important role in such a future system. All kinds of structured and semistructured personal health data must be s...
متن کاملFrom Semistructured Data to XML: Migrating the Lore Data Model and Query Language
Research on semistructured data over the last several years has focused on data models, query languages, and systems where the database is modeled as some form of labeled, directed graph [Abi97, Bun97]. The recent emergence of eXtensible Markup Language (XML) as a new standard for data representation and exchange on the World-Wide Web has drawn significant attention [BPSM98]. Researchers have c...
متن کاملSemistructured Data Store Mapping with XML and Its Reconstruction
XML has been quickly emerging as a dominant standard for data representation and exchange on the World Wide Web for its many good features such as well-formed structure or semantic support. Research on semistructured data over the last several years has focused on data models, query languages, and systems where the database is modeled in some form of a labeled, directed graph. Processing this a...
متن کاملOn Reasoning about Structural Equality in XML: A Description Logic Approach
We define a boolean complete description logic dialect called DLFDreg that can be used to reason about structural equality in semistructured ordered data in the presence of document type definitions. This application depends on the novel ability of DLFDreg to express functional dependencies over sets of possibly infinite feature paths defined by regular languages. We also present a decision pro...
متن کاملUsing Hypersets to Represent Semistructured Data
This paper presents a new metamodel based on partially ordered hypersets. The metamodel is minimalist, its only primitives being atoms, potentially infinite hypersets and partial order. The type system is very loose and supports concurrent extensional and intensional definition of types. Every element of the metamodel can be directly referenced, thanks to a powerful automated reification facili...
