چکیده

Constructed treatment wetlands have been found to remove fecal coliform (FC) through a variety of mechanisms. This research evaluated the removal of FC in both warm and cold seasons from surface flow treatment wetlands in Bible Hill, Nova Scotia. Two wetlands (100 m), of differing depths were monitored over a 17 month period. The wetlands were loaded with dairy wastewater (average inlet FC concentration of 7438 CFU) at a rate of 2.2×10 CFU had. Weekly samples were collected at the wetland inlet and outlet for FC using the MPN method. Removal rates and mass reductions ranged from 96.8 to 99.7% over the entire monitoring period. Fecal coliform discharge levels were below guidelines for recreation (< 200 CFU 100 mL) and irrigation (< 100 CFU 100 mL) purposes the majority of the time, indicating that removal of FC in these systems was sufficient in both warm and cold seasons, even when ice conditions existed.

The role of constructed wetlands in secondary effluent treatment and water reuse in subtropical and arid Australia

Water reclamation and reuse is being actively promoted in Australia. In Queensland, surface-flow constructed wetlands with a diversity of macrophyte types offer the greatest potential for effluent polishing. Constructed wetlands in subtropical climates in coastal regions and arid climates in inland western regions are conducive to high macrophyte growth rates and nutrient removal, in particular...

Pollutant removal by Canna Generalis in tropical constructed wetlands for domestic wastewater treatment

Constructed wetlands have not been commonly used in Vietnam due to the lack of information in the selection of proper types of constructed wetlands, type of reeds, design parameters and performance efficiency, in tropical climates. This paper focuses on Canna generalis, which is a common reed and easy to grow both in water and wet land conditions. Two kinds of hybrid constructed wetlan...

U.S. Wetlands Outside of CEAP Wetlands Assessment Regions

Constructed wetlands are gaining increased attention for treatment of nonpoint sources of water pollution. Although constructed wetlands have been utilized for wastewater treatment in warm climates, their performance in cold climates has been questioned. A surface-flow wetland, designed to treat 2.65 m super(3) d super(-1) of milkhouse wastewater, was constructed on the University of Connecticu...
