چکیده

Theoretical work predicts that the strong dependence of Tc on pure shear strain within the a-b plane of optimally doped YBa2Cu3O7−δ results in heterogenous columnar pins of vortex lines about dislocation lines and about nano-columns inclusions aligned in parallel to the c axis. The critical current of a rigid vortex lattice driven by the Lorentz force in the presence of such clusters of pin/antipin lines is computed using two-dimensional (2D) collective pinning theory and by numerical simulation of the corresponding 2D vortex dynamics. Both theory and computer calculation find that the antipin component of the heterogenous columnar pins contributes substantially to the net in-field critical current.

E€ects of Columnar and Point Defects on Magnetic Hysteresis Curves Produced by Three-dimensional Vortices in Layered Superconductors

Using parallel three-dimensional molecular dynamics simulations of line-like coupled pancake vortices, we consider the e€ect of inter-layer coupling strength and pinning correlation on the magnetization curves of anisotropic super-conductors. Columnar pins produce the largest critical current and are insensitive to layer interaction strength. Point pins are increasingly e€ective at pinning the ...

Vortex lattice melting in layered superconductors with periodic columnar pins.

The melting of the vortex lattice in highly anisotropic, layered superconductors with commensurate, periodic columnar pins is studied in a geometry where magnetic field and columnar pins are normal to the layers. Thermodynamic properties and equilibrium density distributions are obtained from numerical minimization of an appropriate free-energy functional. We find a line of first-order transiti...

Localized Flux Lines and the Bose Glass

Columnar defects provide effective pinning centers for magnetic flux lines in high–Tc superconductors. Utilizing a mapping of the statistical mechanics of directed lines to the quantum mechanics of two–dimensional bosons, one expects an entangled flux liquid phase at high temperatures, separated by a second–order localization transition from a low–temperature “Bose glass” phase with infinite ti...

Local probe of vortex pinning energies in the Bose glass.

Columnar defects provide strong pinning centers for vortices in high-T, superconductors, increasing global critical currents. Using a magnetometer array of micron dimensions, we characterize the local field profiles in untwinned single crystals of YBa2Cu307 ~ with equivalent columnar defect densities B&. We find that the critical current is large only where the internal magnetic field B~B&. In ...

Vortex Washboard Voltage Noise in Type-II Superconductors

In order to characterize flux flow through disordered type-II superconductors, we investigate the effects of columnar and point defects on the vortex velocity / voltage power spectrum in the driven non-equilibrium steady state. We employ three-dimensional Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations to measure relevant physical observables including the force-velocity / current-voltage (I-V) characterist...
