Depth-Layer-Based Patient Motion Compensation for the Overlay of 3D Volumes onto X-Ray Sequences

چکیده
A novel depth-layer based patient motion compensation approach for 2D/3D overlay applications is introduced. Depth-aware tracking enables automatic detection and correction of patient motion without the iterative computation of digitally reconstructed radiographs (DRR) frame by frame. Depth layer images are computed to match and reconstruct 2D features into 2D+ space. Using standard 2D tracking and the additional depth information, we directly estimate the 3D rigid motion. The experimental results show that with about 30 depth layers a 3D motion can be recovered with a projection error below 2mm.

Respiratory motion compensation by model-based catheter tracking during EP procedures
In many cases, radio-frequency catheter ablation of the pulmonary veins attached to the left atrium still involves fluoroscopic image guidance. Two-dimensional X-ray navigation may also take advantage of overlay images derived from static pre-operative 3D volumetric data to add anatomical details otherwise not visible under X-ray. Unfortunately, respiratory motion may impair the utility of stat...
متن کاملMotion Estimation and Compensation in Medical Imaging
This dissertation presents a framework for estimation of motion fields in 2D images, 3D volumes and multi-dimensional signal registration. The primary application is motion compensation for sequences of medical images and volumes with contrast agents. The framework implies motion estimation in two steps where the intermediate result is constraints on the local motion vectors. One algorithm gene...
متن کاملJoint Motion Estimation and Layer Segmentation in Transparent Image Sequences - Application to Noise Reduction in X-Ray Image Sequences
This paper is concerned with the estimation of the motions and the segmentation of the spatial supports of the different layers involved in transparent X-ray image sequences. Classical motion estimation methods fail on sequences involving transparent effects since they do not explicitly model this phenomenon. We propose a method that comprises three main steps: initial blockmatching for two-lay...
متن کاملSparse Depth Sampling for Interventional 2-D/3-D Overlay: Theoretical Error Analysis and Enhanced Motion Estimation
Patient motion compensation is challenging for dynamic 2D/3-D overlay in interventional procedures. A first motion compensation approach based on depth-layers has been recently proposed, where 3-D motion can be estimated by tracking feature points on 2-D X-ray images. However, the sparse depth estimation introduces a systematic error. In this paper, we present a theoretical analysis on the syst...
متن کاملMotion Estimation Model for Cardiac and Respiratory Motion Compensation
Catheter ablation is widely accepted as the best remaining option for the treatment of atrial fibrillation if drug therapy fails. Ablation procedures can be guided by 3-D overlay images projected onto live fluoroscopic X-ray images. These overlay images are generated from either MR, CT or C-Arm CT volumes. As the alignment of the overlay is often compromised by cardiac and respiratory motion, m...
