Calculation of Steam-water Relative Permeability Using Capillary Pressure Data

چکیده
Various capillary pressure approaches such as the Purcell, Burdine, Corey, and Brooks-Corey methods were used to calculate steam-water relative permeabilities using the measured data of steamwater capillary pressure in both drainage and imbibition processes. The calculated results were compared to the experimental data of steam-water relative permeability measured in Berea sandstone. The steam-water relative permeability and capillary pressure were measured simultaneously. The differences between the Purcell model and the measured values were almost negligible for water phase relative permeability in both drainage and imbibition but not for the steam phase. The insignificance of the effect of tortuosity on the wetting phase was revealed. A physical model was developed to explain the insignificance of the tortuosity. Steam phase relative permeabilities calculated by other models were very close to the experimental values for drainage, but very different for imbibition, as expected. The same calculation was made for the nitrogen-water flow to confirm the observation in the steam-water flow. The results in this study showed that it would be possible and useful to calculate steam-water relative permeability using the capillary pressure method, especially for the drainage case.

Steam-Water Capillary Pressure
Steam-water capillary pressure is of central importance in geothermal reservoir engineering, however it is still poorly known due to the difficulty making direct measurements. To this end, we have conducted experimental and theoretical studies over the past five years and have made significant progress in understanding fundamental steamwater flow. In this paper, we summarize and discuss the res...
متن کاملAn Efficient Method for Determining Capillary Pressure and Relative Permeability Curves from Spontaneous Imbibition Data
In this paper, a very efficient method, called single matrix block analyzer (SMBA), has been developed to determine relative permeability and capillary pressure curves from spontaneous imbibition (SI) data. SMBA mimics realistically the SI tests by appropriate boundary conditions modeling. In the proposed method, a cuboid with an identical core plug height is considered. The equal dimensions of...
متن کاملA Capillary Pressure Model for Geothermal Reservoirs
Abstract Steam-water capillary pressure is often either ignored or determined artificially in geothermal reservoir engineering. However steam-water capillary pressure plays an important role in geothermal reservoir performance and may not be substituted by air-water capillary pressure. To this end, preliminary mathematical models have been developed to calculate drainage and imbibition steam-wa...
متن کاملDetermination of Resistivity Index, Capillary Pressure, and Relative Permeability
It is known that the three important parameters: resistivity, capillary pressure, and relative permeability, are all a function of fluid saturation in a porous medium. This implies that there may be a correlation among the three parameters. There have been many papers on the approach to inferring relative permeability from capillary pressure data. However the literature on the interrelationship...

Displacement of oil and water in porous media of reservoir rocks is described by relative permeability curves, which are important input data for reservoir performance simulation and drive mechanism studies. Many core studies, such as multiphase relative permeability, capillary pressure and saturation exponent determination, depend on the volume fractions of multiphase flui...
