چکیده

There are two primary models of temporal data structures. The first, called persistence, is based on the branching-universe model of time travel. In this model, going back in time and making changes creates a new branch of the data structure that differs from the original branch. The second, called retroactivity, works on the idea of round-trip time travel. Here, a time traveller goes back in time, makes a change, and then returns to observe the effects of his or her change. This model gives us a there is a linear timeline with no branching.

6 . 851 : Advanced Data Structures Spring 2012 Lecture 12 — April 3 , 2012

We continue our analysis of integer data structures, focusing this lecture on fusion trees. This structure employs some neat bit tricks and word-level parallelism. In particular, we discuss the following techniques necessary to understand the workings of a fusion tree: sketching, which allows certain w-bit words to be compressed to less than w bits, parallel comparison, where multiple words can...

Advanced Approximation Algorithms ( CMU 18 - 854 B , Spring 2008 ) Lecture 7 : Asymmetric K - Center

1.1 2-Approximation Algorithm for Symmetric k-Center There are many (essentially identical) 2-approximations known for the k-center problem. Here is one of them: letR be our “guess” for the optimal value—we run the following procedure with our guess for R, and return the smallest value R for which this procedure returns at most k facilities. Algorithm I (Symmetric k-center) 1. Label all vertice...

Advanced Noninvasive Geophysical Monitoring Techniques

Geophysical methods can be used to create images of the Earth’s interior that constitute snapshots at the moment of data acquisition. In many applications, it is important to measure the temporal change in the subsurface, because the change is associated with deformation, fluid flow, temperature changes, or changes in material properties. We present an overview of how noninvasive geophysical me...
