چکیده

In this paper, an equivalent ‘virtual’ SIMO (Single Input Multiple Output) radar representation of the MIMO radar system is established which enables the analysis of the full MIMO system geometry. Analytical expressions are derived to describe the key geometrical properties of the virtual array’s manifold, which fully characterises the entire transmit-receive system geometry. A new family of subarrayed collinear MIMO array structures is presented for obtaining uniform linear virtual arrays. It is shown that this reduces the required radar platform size by up to a half, compared to popular existing methods, without reducing virtual array aperture. Direction of Arrival Estimation Using a Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output Radar with Applications to Automobiles

The thesis at hand investigates the direction of arrival (DOA) estimation using a Multiple-InputMultiple-Output (MIMO) radar system. The application of MIMO radars in automobiles is studied. A MIMO radar consists of several transmitting (Tx) and receiving (Rx) antennas. We focus on a time division multiplexed (TDM) MIMO radar with colocated Tx and Rx antennas. The motivation is the use of a rad...

Power Allocation Strategies for MIMO Radar Waveform Design

The role of waveform design is central to effective radar resource management for state-of-the art radar systems. The waveform shape employed by any radar system has always been a key factor in determining the performance and application. The design of radar waveform to minimize mean square error (MSE) in estimating the target impulse response is based on power allocation using waterfilling. ...

Ambiguity Optimization Using Frequency-Hopping Waveforms

Recently, the concept of MIMO (multiple-inputmultiple-output) radars has drawn considerable attention. In traditional SIMO (single-input-multiple-output) radar, the transmitters emit coherent waveforms to form a focused beam. In MIMO radar, the transmitters emit orthogonal (or incoherent) waveforms to increase the spatial resolution. These waveforms also affect the range and Doppler resolution ...

MIMO Radar Ambiguity Optimization using Phase Coded Pulse Waveforms

Multiple input multiple output radars transmit partially coherent or noncoherent waveforms for improving spatial resolution or spatial diversity. While waveform design for SIMO radars concentrate on improving the delay and Doppler resolution characteristics, waveform design for MIMO radars involve optimization of delay, Doppler and spatial resolution characteristics. The resolution properties o...

Synthetic Aperture Imaging and Autofocus with Coherent Mimo Sonar Systems

MIMO stands for Multiple Inputs Multiple Outputs. Such systems have received a lot of interests in the radar community during the last decade1 . One of the main reason behind this is the greater variety in terms of target view angles compared with traditional monostatic systems. With several independent views one can hope to reduce the speckle effect typical of coherent sensor systems such as R...
