چکیده

Background Diffuse myocardial fibrosis has been described in different cardiomyopathies and has recently been correlated to T1 times measured by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). Despite these advances it is yet unknown whether there are differences in T1 maps among these cardiomyopathies and if CMR can distinguish different levels of fibrosis in each category. Moreover, most work on T1 mapping has been carried on 1.5T scanners with limited data on these values at 3.0T.

Myocardial T1 mapping at 3.0T using inversion recovery FLASH readout

Background Myocardial T1 mapping methods such as modified Look-Locker inversion-recovery (MOLLI) typically use balanced steady state free precession (bSSFP) readout, which is known to be particularly sensitive to off resonance and thus limits its utility at higher field strengths. Fast low angle shot (FLASH) imaging is known to be more robust against susceptibility artifacts than bSSFP. However...

Evaluation of diffuse myocardial fibrosis using contrast-enhanced look-locker cardiac MRI and its relation with cardiac function in dilated cardiomyopathy: comparison between 1.5T and 3T

Background Cardiac MRI is useful for evaluation of severity and prognosis of DCM. This can render myocardial scarring in delayed contrast-enhanced MRI, but the scarring is observed only in 30%-40% of DCM cases presenting with congestive heart failure. Because of its binary contrast between the normal myocardium and scarring, delayed contrasenhanced MRI may fail to detect the diffuse myocardial ...

Influence of Off-resonance in myocardial T1-mapping using SSFP based MOLLI method

BACKGROUND Myocardial T1-mapping methods such as MOLLI use SSFP readout and are prone to frequency-dependent error in T1-measurement. A significant error in T1 may result at relatively small off-resonance frequencies that are well within the region without banding artifacts. METHODS The sensitivity of T1-estimates based on the SSFP based MOLLI sequence to errors in center frequency are calcul...

Accuracy and precision of myocardial T1mapping with MOLLI and ShMOLLI at 1.5T and 3.0T: a phantom study

Background Previous studies have demonstrated that an increase in extracellular volume measured on MRI is directly proportionate to myocardial fibrosis. Myocardial extracellular volume is proportionate to partition coefficient (l) and extracellular volume = l × (1-hematocrit). l can be measured by assessing the T1 relaxation time before and after injection of contrast medium. The goal of this s...

3.0T Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Quantification of Myocardial Extracellular Volume using different delay time of post-contrast T1 mapping for the Diagnosis of Cardiac Amyloidosis

Background Cardiac involvement in systemic light-chain (AL) amyloidosis is caused by the extracellular deposition of misfolded AL immunoglobulin and carries a poor prognosis. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) T1 mapping and extracellular volume (ECV) measurements may have advantages over late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) for early diagnosis and quantifying of amyloid burden. The aim of this stud...
