چکیده

there are significant overlaps in clinical, physiological and pathological features of the two diseases, including the mechanisms of bronchial hyperresponsiveness and atopy that drive obstructive phenotypes [7]. Although asthma may progress to chronic irreversible airflow obstruction, changes in reversibility over time are not widely reported [8, 9]. It may be that we require a new taxonomy to better define the various disorders of airway obstruction.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis: A Chance for a Multidisciplinary Treatment Approach

Background and Objectives: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is characterized by progressively worsening lung function, ventilation capacity, dyspnea, and finally reduced exercise intolerance. All of these have a significant negative impact on functional capacity and quality of life. In this study, we aim to evaluate the effects of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) in IPF and assess the predictor...

Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: a tissue Doppler echocardiographic study

It was hypothesised that, apart from right ventricular (RV) dysfunction, patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) also exhibit left ventricular (LV) impairment, which may affect disease progression and prognosis. The aim of the present study was to evaluate LV performance in a cohort of IPF patients using conventional and tissue Doppler echocardiography. IPF patients exhibiting mild-to...

Novel Therapeutic Strategies for Reducing Right Heart Failure Associated Mortality in Fibrotic Lung Diseases

Fibrotic lung diseases carry a significant mortality burden worldwide. A large proportion of these deaths are due to right heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. Underlying contributory factors which appear to play a role in the mechanism of progression of right heart dysfunction include chronic hypoxia, defective calcium handling, hyperaldosteronism, pulmonary vascular alterations, cyclic s...

Clinical relevance of autonomic nervous system disturbances in pulmonary arterial hypertension

P ulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare dyspnoea-fatigue syndrome defined by an isolated increase in pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and eventual right ventricular failure [1]. In spite of progress achieved during the last two decades, the condition remains severe, with a median survival limited to 5–6 yrs and persistent functional limitation in approximately half of the survivors ...
