چکیده

The cyanoprocaryotes (cyanobacteria) are distributed globally. Their ability to bloom in water is mainly a result of eutrophication of water bodies, the safety of which is connected to the presence of toxin producing algal species (Oliver and Ganf, 2000). Cyanobacteria can produce a broad spectrum of toxins – cyanotoxins EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE AND LIGHT INTENSITY ON THE GROWTH, CHLOROPHYLL A CONCENTRATION AND MICROCYSTIN PRODUCTION BY MICROCYSTIS AERUGINOSA

Effect of Small-Scale Turbulence on the Growth and Metabolism of Microcystis aeruginosa

Microcystis aeruginosa is a single-celled cyanobacterium, forming large colonies on the surface of freshwater ecosystems during summer, and producing a toxin (microcystin) that in high concentration can be harmful to humans and animals. These toxic effects can be governed by abiotic environmental conditions including water temperature, light, nutrient abundance, and fluid motion. We investigate...

Warming Affects Growth Rates and Microcystin Production in Tropical Bloom-Forming Microcystis Strains

Warming climate is predicted to promote cyanobacterial blooms but the toxicity of cyanobacteria under global warming is less well studied. We tested the hypothesis that raising temperature may lead to increased growth rates but to decreased microcystin (MC) production in tropical Microcystis strains. To this end, six Microcystis strains were isolated from different water bodies in Southern Viet...

Effects of nonylphenol on the growth and microcystin production of Microcystis strains.

Both organic pollution and eutrophication are prominent environmental issues concerning water pollution in the world. It is important to reveal the effects of organic pollutants on algal growth and toxin production for assessing ecological risk of organic pollution. Since nonylphenol (NP) is a kind of persistent organic pollutant with endocrine disruptive effect which exists ubiquitously in env...

Combined effects of two antibiotic contaminants on Microcystis aeruginosa.

Combined toxicity of spiramycin and amoxicillin was tested in Microcystis aeruginosa. The respective 50% effective concentrations (EC50mix) expressed in toxic unit (TU) values were 1.25 and 1.83 for spiramycin and amoxicillin mixed at 1:7 and 1:1, suggesting an antagonistic interaction at the median effect level. Deviations from the prediction of concentration addition (CA) and independent acti...

Statistical Optimization of The Four Key Factors on β-Carotene Production by Dunaliella salina Under Laboratory Conditions Using Response Surface Methodology

During recent years, there was growing demand in using microalga valuable products such as β-carotene in health care. β-Carotene has anti-cancer and anti-aging properties for human. In Dunaliella salina cells, β-carotene has a major protecting role for biomolecules, when the production of reactive oxygen species elevated. In the present study, we investigated the influence of the four most effe...
