Lieutenant Colonel Robert Likeman served as Commanding Officer of the 9th Field Ambulance and the 11th Brigade Administrative Support Battalion, and was Senior Medical Officer of the 11th Brigade from 1964 to 2001. He has had operational deployments to Rwanda and East Timor. In his civilian life as a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology he has lived and worked in the Middle East, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu, and has had wide experience of tropical medicine. He is the author of two books of military history, and co-author of a textbook of obstetrics and gynaecology for the developing world. In 2005, he was recalled from the Retired List to be the Senior Medical Officer of the 3rd Brigade based in Townsville.
